Haha, no, that's a new "forum" graphic that AI did for me πŸ‘
Not much response about making a Facebook group, so it looks not it's not worth it .

Well we could form a little Oz ghetto on HDForums, sign on with our HDFA user names.

That way we can still keep in touch, probably the simplest way to do it, no one here needs to do extra work. We might need to clean up our language a bit.
I see you're on the XL forum Hilly. You might have seen me there but I don't go there much, seeing you need cloud storage to upload photos, can't just pick them off your phone gallery.

Hey Steve, failing getting together as a group to take over this site (which looks unlikely) your suggestion about HDForums is a good one. I seldom actually log on here (unless I have something to say/ask) but I will miss this site and the motley crew that inhabits it as I access the site daily - it cheers me up, especially when the depression gets too deep.

    Cheers, Will

Just back from 4 weeks in Singapore, Thailand and Laos to see that HDForums will no longer be... for me it has been 18 Years and at one stage an Ambassador for the group due to my travel schedule and meeting with like minded HD people and promoting the site.

Outside of FB, who here uses WhatsApp or Signal? These are two Apps where group chat is possible.

I am maybe out of my depth here, but I have my own web address (www.kroll.id.au) and last time I checked, the cost was under $200 a year. So, hdforums.com.au sounds a similar setup. How many members are in this site? Cause just $10 a year "membership" by 20 members covers that cost, and can probably get rid of the annoying ads into the bargain. Then, it's just a couple of admins to look at new member applications, and it should run itself. Where am I wrong? Attached is Chatgpt estimate, depending on traffic.

Hey Merv, on those figures I'm up for it. Actually probably $20/year is Ok with most I'm guessing (but I've been wrong before . . . )

    Cheers, Will

Be interesting to get the costs, procedures etc from the current Admin. If it was within my ability, I'd have a go at transferring it. That is, converting it to a 'Member owned' forum.

I imagine to own a website that receives commission income, a business name would need to be registered. The ASIC website show that currently the business name of HD Forums Australia is available for registration

Unless you want to protect the name, which hasn't been done for the years the site has operated, why complicate things. Treat it as a non profit club and keep it simple? There are rules where a club doesn't need to be registered either. Would need to check tho.

The reality is this site will be gone before anything is organised.
Hilly, most people use add-blockers .
Maybe that's why the site is broke πŸ€”

Appears even with a co-operative owner, rescuing it would be a fair task. A search shows that the site is about to expire and is unable to be renewed. So looks like it's final.

I'm in the process of registering on HD Forums. Once I'm on there successfully and can start a new thread, I'll start one called We come from the lands down under, or Living in the lands of Oz and Nz or some silly shit like that, could serve as an easy place to check in at.

Obi, if you start a topic , include a more unique title that's easier for search to pick up - maybe include Australia.
I've registered on that site for years, but rarely visit.

I joined up at HD Forums today but didn't have time to familiarize myself with the site.
Hopefully get a chance to have a look tonight. Did you start a thread on it yet Obi ?
