    Have a great trip fella.

I did it mid 80s with a bunch of guys on XR500s  They were the bike back then for Enduro, everyone had one.  We had a lot of fun.  Pretty sure its a tiny bit more civilised road wise up there now.

Yes Binnsy the main development rd is supposedly pretty good but we intend doing old telegraph one way and development rd home. You know what usually happens when you have a plan though...

tele track will be fun ....on any sort of bike,i believe its as wet up there on the rack as any other wet year...will be challenging.i saw a narrow log bike bridge just up stream  about 45 metres at nolans brook when we were there, the creek is very narrow at that spot [ and heard little crocs croaking while in the tent at night ]

The log bridge is still there perhaps updated with fresh logs but still present. Panniers are packed just need one more MX lightweight shirt and then its showtime!

Cheers Balof at around this time tomorrow will just be south of bundy. Have had the Simpson on the radar for some time now but wouldn't be any fun on a BMW 1200GS. A Suzuki dr 400 or similar i think is the go.

Simpson, I agree with you 100 per. Something young but with go, nubile, and able to throw around as well as having the bites of ground contact, that covers it I'd say. So ya on the road bloke, keep head above water.and I do remember the croc's at night.
Red eyes and me with a cannon ta blow em outta place, couldn't, as they belong. safe trip bloke.

Plenty of 4x4 dickheads up here. Made The tip with a few minor glitches, one bike hit a tree at 40 kph another over the Bars at low speed. On the way home now, back at Bramwell station then Musgrave via Lakefield Rd and battlecamp to lions den.

One more day and the trip is over. Did Charter's tower to Rocky in driving rain and mostly single digit temps...800 KLM with wet nuts wasn't on my to do list. Hopefully the Bruce highway will be open at Gympie as The coast is getting 100kph winds and cyclonic rain.

    Single digit temps?
And you are that far north!
    Almost unbelievable.
You could have been riding at Liaweene here in tas the other morning at -9 degrees with no rain.
Fuck winter. Yesterday there was a thick frost at my place and there was still snow on the ground from last Monday.

Fuck yeah!, been here over 30 years.
When it is icy I can light the fire in my shed and work my guts out (occasionally) and know I am not missing out on any good rides.
If I get it right then I can bludge in the warmer months and enjoy the sublime roads and riding Tassie has to offer.

Well the trip is done and in the memory banks and a bucket list item checked off. Several things learnt and like every trip the odd close call with a few suicidal roos and fuckwit DR 400 hirebike tools trying to impress their mates. We did 5972 klm in 13days averaging just short of 460klm a day. The road sections going up were brutal as the Bruce highway is a national disgrace with endless 5/10klm stretches of 40, 60, 80, 60, 40 stoplight. Its no exaggeration to say that the Development road up to the Cape has les potholes!
I learned that a BMW 1200GS is far more capable off-road than i have talent for and was the star when it came to fuel range. It did a few road stints on cruise control getting 460-480klm to a tank with still a few litres left from a 20litre tank.
After my mates recommendation i bought some Roc straps to tie down a 5 litre reserve fuel tank......throw away your ocky straps gents these are fantastic.
The CF MOTO adventure bike from China ran faultlessly and was very impressive only needing a chain adjustment once all trip.
Now to plan the next trip....you will notice that i felt sorry for leaving the Street Glide behind so took her keyring along for the ride.
