A Chinese company, Shineray, has come up with a new 1200 V twin engine. It seems a little familiar, but I just can't place it . . .

There's a few bikes now coming from Chinese manufacturers into the Aussie markets. A CF Moto 800 came to the Cape with us and never had a spanner laid on it for the trip , ran faultlessly. Benelli are also out of China now as is AJS. Some HD are made in India and some electronics are also made in China. Slowly slowly taking over.....

having serious looks at a cf800,ktm engine [ cf actually make the ktm engines for ktm ]loads of tech extras, tubeless rims/tyres,pressure monitoring, cruise, non switchable abs and 19 " front wheel are not ideal i suppose, ride modes and a heap of other stuff....looking but not convinced yet, coming from china leaves a bit of doubt, but it one can zip up the cape and back , that says something at least.

Bruce they are a reall good thing. Its my brother in laws bike and we would swap bikes just for a bit of a different experience on that Cape trip. The only major drawback is it doesn't have traction control. River crossings etc coming out the other side after a 4x4 just went thru was a lottery, would it spin up or grip. The 19 front aint a problem at the pace we were going and skill/lack off, as a KTM or more dirt biased bike is not as nice on the tar with a 21. Funny when he first got the bike the heated grips would display "Heated Gripes" and heated seat would say "Warm bum" on the digital display.....its all Chinese to me!

My comment was in humor.  Just to explain, the original post was a dig at the Chinese for clearly ripping off the Sportster motor.  The dig was well deserved as the Chinese are shameless bastards that rip off everything.

But then I simply questioned, how bad it really is, because S&S have been ripping off Harley motors for years.  Now I don't know what right S&S have to create replicas of Harley motors.  They may have a right to do it.  I really don't know.

S&S have been making big dollars for years copying Harley stuff and improving it.
In more recent times Harley came up with the drop-in cylinders with the thinner liners. S&S were 12 months behind them ( I believe for patent reasons) with their offering.
And not just copying HD, Dan Thayer designed a stage 3 oil pump, an improvement over the stock twin cam pump, and then S&S copied that (with minor modifications).

Some might not know about collaborations between S&S and Harley Davidson in earlier days, the 80" Shovel was a spin off from S&S taken up by Harley Davidson. S&S originated pretty much in drag racing, speed trials etc that was always the intent of George senior, this was also followed up by George junior [somewhere around 80yrs old now] in the seventies they made everything that could make a Shovel/Pan /Knuck go fast, in the eighties they started making bolt on 98" kits for Evo's, they also were still heavily involved in drag racing and land speed trials. They built stand alone engines for sport and for the road, most were inspired by the requirement to fit in Harley Davidson frames if the engine was intended for the road.
As for S&S having to copy something from Harley Davidson and just put their spin on it is a bit ,,,,,,,.
A visit to S&S is an eye opener, the stuff they have had in development over the years would probably stun most.
Sadly the legal battles started in the early 2000's
    A couple of my favorites.

And just in case anyone here cares, they developed the stroker crank that took the Victory 100 ci to 106 ci.

lol I bet S&S would cringe a bit being mentioned in a junk Chinese bike thread😀
