And the update from dealer.. none of em got on the boat on the 21st, delays.

Oh and apparently they all come from Thailand now.

What’s the bit about them coming from Thailand?

    Quoting Mr.Mow on 08 May 2022 05:27 AM

Most Harley for the Oz market are assembled in Thailand now, they get shipped to Thailand as a box of bits and bolted together. They’ve done it for a while.

Harley has had a deal with Qianjiang to manufacture and assemble bikes in China for several yrs now.

    g'day,

Lib, that 40 years was only if ya bought it new. Scored it 20 years ago, so no ya didna buy new, glad kept it ugly original, cause it just is another interesting page in the Harley Davidson story of 'What the fuck were they thinking'. or smoking or drinking. But was the 80's trend bloody plastic .  What year is this really?

Laidlaw Harley just did a good review of the Lowrider ST  which covers the original RT / Project Nova stuff too.

The FXRT is the Frankenstein's monster of the Harley line-up.
After the buy-out of the company from AMF by the Harley execs, the FXR and FXRS were developed and released in '82.
The bags and fairing were leftover from the electraglides and so the FXRT was spawned.
A clever, cost effective means of using up old parts and offering a good handling, touring bike.
A lot of guys in the States are converting FXRs for touring but are going with custom batwing fairings.

    Two things.

The RT fairings were from the Nova project, not anything to do with the FLT range.

I can honestly say I've NEVER seen an FXR with batwing fairing, it's not popular or common at all. Not sayin that there might not have been a few of the 320m us population that havent done it, but its not popular at all. There is a fundamental shift AWAY from fork mounted fairings on both mid range and big tourers. The RGs are way more popular these days.

Yes, the RT fairings were originally developed for the Nova project.
They appear to be a tweak of the bmw fairing released in 1976.

West Oz had a small number of the police version in use in the early 90s. I saw the fairing off one hanging in a blokes shed in Brisbane when he was in the process of turning it into an ugly generic 90s custom, all in your face paint and chrome billet bring.

Was told during the week the first shipment all left port and should arrive 3-4 weeks.

    Right in time for winter!
Supposedly the next lot are due oct and sold out as well.

Do I do the cheeky thing and put it up for sale the second I get it?! Hahah, nice little markup on it.  Mercenary? Yes, but shit the current state of the world, who cares?

40 years ago I walked past one of these at Belmont Harley in Perth and bought a new Electra Glide, the fxrt just didn't do it for me then, but I never forgot it, so 20 years ago one came up so I grabbed it,
