I am not happy with the std lean fueling on a Bmw 1200gs that i have just bought. The bike is stock std and at constant throttle around town has this very annoying surging even under compression braking. A google search seems like its a recognized issue and the only way to overcome it is to ritchen up the mixture a touch so rather than buying a power commander for $650 i have bought a booster plug. The make them for HD as well but best for std bikes. Let you know how it goes when i get it and fit on.

    Nice bike PB.
Or you could toss that boat-anchor stock muffler, get an aftermarket can (Akrapovic are nice) and a tune to match?? They do sound very nice when freed up a bit!

Cheers. Will get a muffler at some stage, cant remember a bike other than my production race bikes that had a std system. The reason i haven't at this stage is that if i free the exhaust up its just going to create a increase in the lean problems currently going on. Lets see if this Booster plug does its job if not i may have found a s/hand power commander to play with. The electronics are AMAZING. You can grab the front brake at 100kph on the gravel and rocks with a road biased tyre and it just pulls up hard. You can exit a bend on either the dirt or the tar and just crack it full throttle, wet road , muddy track and it just sorts it all for you....or with the switch of a button do the same and sail over the high side..LOL

C'mon this is a Harley forum!
You can grab the front brake at 100kph on the gravel and rocks with a road biased tyre on a Harley and you will hit the gravel and rocks hard. You can exit a bend on either the dirt or the tar and just crack your Harley open full throttle, wet road , muddy track you'll end up face first on either. ;-)

First thing I thought after reading the opening post and seeing the pic, was piss that standard pipe off.
Nothing is meant to run properly with standard pipes now days and for some years, as I'm sure you know.
    Fuck it off.

Vic by adding a muffler to the equation as it stands simply makes the motor even leaner than with the std. Once i get the problem solved the mods will flow. Still see a piggyback as being the real solution but prepared to try a $220 option over a $700 option first.

I am never the best to ask for mechanical advise, BUT I have fucked around with a supper trap on a Yamaha TT 600 taking and adding rings in the trap to help run the bike leaner. And a supper trap can sound awesome when whipping the horses

You should have dropped the needle in the carb if you wanted it leaner. Had a TT 600 myself and it would kick like a fucking mule if you didnt show who the boss was when starting it....many a twisted ankle from that bike.

So my booster plug took 2.5 days to get from Denmark to Brisbane.....it now takes 2 weeks to get 100klm from Brisbane to Sunny Coast!

So today i went to Brisbane and picked my part up from the depot....sick of waiting for lazy cunts at Aust post to pickup and deliver. Cant fault DHL and their customer team..well done!
Anyway have fitted it and done around 100klm with it. Certainly the idle is improved markedly, the part throttle is better but not by a huge amount and the top end about the same. Looking like a power commander for me...

Guessing that Covid and all the restrictions associated with it are only happening in Australia to excuse the fact that the part traveled 900klm internationally in 1.5 days, cleared customs in Amsterdam and was in Brisbane the next day. Total time to reach here 2.5 days.......delivery from the depot 94klm away......2 weeks!!! Its 19 months into Covid and two weeks ago after announcing this, "Australia Post says it will not pick up parcels from e-commerce retailers in NSW, Victoria and the ACT for three days beginning this weekend." they have " announced a hiring blitz of more than 4,000 new staff to cope with additional services prompted by high demand." So it either hasn't be busy enough to warrant the extra manpower prior or management have been asleep at the wheel......luckily for them its a government owned and funded entity. Credit to them though...they are reporting a profit, perhaps to buy management new watches....lol
