Good mate of mine his 2008 Softail Springer CVO 110 took a major shit , dropped/grenaded rear cylinder lifter. The rest when whammo therafter.

Declared an uneconomic repair by the local Indy shop. Not really a surprise. Finding a 110 Softail motor in WA ? Very unlikely

I am after a "new bike take-off" long block where perhaps a 120R was put into a Softail. OR a low K's 103 motor

Now I am not kidding but 8 years ago you could practically trip over the bastard things in Frasers workshop and Gumtree had several listed for sale.

Who was ever gunna need one of those ?

I can find Dyna/Tourer 103's in WA , but no 103 Softail motors to date.

I have found also Softail 96 cube motors 2007 and younger , but would ideally like factory ACR's , hence the 103 request.

The idea is we make the 103 a 107 (or similar) and get him close back to where he was.

Message thru' the forum fi you know of anything.

I found this old forum post of mine from 6 years ago , how funny does it sound today !

Frasers Perth told me some time ago they have to FORCE the issue for guys to take them away after a 120R transplant, as their basement was chock fulla the things !

Ta mate. It's getting a stripdown at home next week. Out of morbid interest mostly.

Also found a post tonight from the forum by a bloke in WA who had just picked up a new bike take-off Softail 110 in October 2020 !

He had put it into a Breakout where his 103 stage 4 had grenaded with no warranty. We're 10 months too late for that one.

I am almost sure I knew that motor as a guy just 8 K's from me had a 120R put into a brand new CVO Deluxe in 2011 from day 1.

I tried to  track that motor down , to find that it was gone some time back. has to be the same one.

I’m sure I saw long block 103s and 96s on gumtree in the last couple of weeks. And sure at least one of them was a softail. Not in wa but get it trucked over via e-go.com.au and it won’t cost too much. I don’t think I’d be too fussy about the acrs in the heads of the 103. If a good 96 is available and it’s being turned into a 107, use s&s ezy start cams or if getting beadwork done it’s not much extra to get manual decomps fitted. Good luck with it all

Thanks fellas. Dyna/Tourer 103 long blocks relatively easy enough to find. Even damaged bikes complete at the auction houses.

Yes I had spotted the 120R lump in Albany, thanks for the reminder.

I had kind of steered him away from that at the moment , as those 120R's can be "soft" over time.

It also sounds like brand new price I suppose or pretty close to it. Probably better with a brand new factory 110 at that money.

We just missed a 120R Softail motor with Fueling oil pump and this and that 3 weeks ago. Way less exxy than the block in Albany..

But never say never as it may come to that.

He might be worth a call though cause if he is into swapping engines he might know of one, there is a 96 softy engine in Tas, it's on gumtree, still in bike so not sure what she is up to, the one I saw yesterday was out of the bike and I only seen it in one spot not plastered across every for sale page, fucked if I can see it now though.

We have been holding out for a 103. The Perth WA weather has been shithouse which thankfully has taken the pressure off.

There is a low K's/new bike take-out 96 cube Softail motor in Perth. It has a 204 cam.

OK but not my first choice. Looks brand new tho' I had a looksee. Upside to that it is in an Indy shop 12 K's from me.

He had fitted the 204 cam for a supply and fit deal that fell thru hence the availability. I do some tuning for the guy and the provenance is 100 %.

I could have it back at mine in jig time......

Or just use s&s ezy start cams and then no need for acrs. Some good deals still available buying parts from the states

Picked up a 2010 Softail Rocker C motor today , taken out of a brand new Rocker for a 120R transplant.

Been dry stored in a shed ever since, in the gear the 120R was shipped in. Presents as new ( which it is !).

Throttle body attached etc etc. Fit cams etc first is the question? I have SE255's ready to go , in the shed for the right money (FREE!)

Found on facebook marketplace by a contact of mine. I had asked all my contacts to look out for such a thing.

Yes of course it's a 96 , the 103 not really apparent until 2012 other than CVO Softails , CVO Fatboy for example.

$3500 in cash money , probably the "going rate" I reckon. Plus it could be picked up in the boot of a hatchback in metro Perth WA.

We could wait no longer for a 103 sadly , but I bet they'll be jumping out of the woodwork next week ! (always the way !)

96" can be a 110" real easy while it's on the bench :)
