Tank swap for 2006 FXDi

I let the clear coat cure for a week or 2 then wet sanded today with 2000,2500,3000 then polished with Meguiars Ultimate compound.

Then used half my only can of impossible-to-find HD texture black on the console, battery box strip and headlight ring.

So for anyone else attempting this - you have to do some minor mods to get the fuel top cover to play nice with the fat-bob console.

The arms were too long and needed to be splayed-out sideways to meet the bolt holes.

Then you need to cut off these with a dremel.

yeah that's all the kinda trouble my mate had ( or at least the Indy repair shop did ).
What they all thought was "bolt on" indeed WAS NOT !
Plus wiring hassles from speedo up on the bars to tank mounted "Softail/Wide Glide" type speedo
The Indy shop wished they had never started , time being money and all that , and they did the job for a pre arranged Insurance quote !
As I said already they had ordered a brand new speedo , opened the box and tried to fit it , too small.
In the end I gave them a 2008 stock Softail Custom speedo from a bike I had put a speedo/revcounter unit into. And some other wee bits.
They were about to chuck the toys out of the sandpit after many many months.
