Do they hold a public auction for the umpire just before the start of the game in AFL?

    Didn't know that.

You make a good point. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this year I've started to think the AFL has become - at least partially - scripted entertainment. Or the umpires have money on the outcome of some of the games.

Well if you blokes reckon it doesn't happen, but just think of the opportunity they're missing.
They could hold it midfield, right in the centre, before the whistle. The clubs chief financial officers, dressed in the club colours meet there to bid for the ref's for the games, all covered in the TV broadcasts. There could be extra value added to the bids for a bit of biff......
It would help recognise that it's not sport any more, just business.

speaking of business. This World Series Footy talk is caching no!
Ran in similar fashion to World Series cricket the state teams would play a same same format.Victorian teams can just play there VFL and some may get an invite from World Series AFL
    Interesting stuff

Just google topics around the subject like:
Would the extra revenue be used to create 2 NT teams
Would the Victoria state of VFL supports, support World Series AFL
how many teams could a state enter into Worlds Series AFL
Would other countries be asked to enter Australian World Series AFL

That was a ripper game, well done Brisbane, the sort of game you hope for as a spectator in finals footy.

I am not a AFL fan at all but watched it at a bbq ....very lopsided and underwhelming. Hopefully Storm v Panthers will be a contest to remember.

The first quarter was a classy, skilled display of fast high pressure football from both sides and was as good a contest as would be seen anywhere.
The Brisbane boys were the underdogs going in but stepped it up a couple of notches in the second quarter and the Swans cracked.
The Broncos would do well to go round and talk to them and find out a bit about attitude and self belief.

Yep - expected a bit more of a contest. Very un-Victorian perhaps - my side not in it - but I ended up loading the ute and doing a tip run. No queue at all.

I'm not certain but because it has Vic Hill in the label I'm thinking early 70's, they were around before then but I read somewhere that Vic Hill had a resurgence of them around that time, pretty sure they have been used off and on by Vic and SA clubs from way back.
I remember some of the footy cards I had as a kid some of the old legends definitely had them on.

Thanks Hilly,I thought it might be a bit older as the person whom owned it was 95 and I thought it might have been her husbands, now it might even be a grandson that wore it and she kept it all these years.
