I got a 90 FLHTC that had a similar problem. Damn thing scared the f*ck outta me the first time I hit a ripple in a high speed sweeper, felt like it had a hinge in the middle. I could replicate the problem at lower speeds by heeling the bike over real fast and doing an on/off with the throttle.

Its a different bike now and here's what I did, each step improved the handling, listed from biggest impact to smallest:

-New tyres... previous owner was scared of corners and so the rear hoop had a big squared off section. Make sure both your tyres are compatible (ie same brand, construction and cross section.) I went with the stocko dunlop 130/90's

-Front engine mount... mine was rooted at 40K... can replace them easy with the engine still in the bike if you are very careful with a car jack and a block of wood. make sure you loosen off the rear fuel tank mount and wedge up the tank first. Spend the extra bucks for the heavy duty replacement mount.

-Rear wheel alignment... the numbhead I bought the bike from had no effing idea about anything mechanical (lucky I got it dirt cheap). Rear drive belt was loose and (this is the scary part) the rear wheel was out of alignment by 1/2".

-Rear engine mount rubbers. Pull the small frame sidecovers and check to see if the rubber mounts have not collapsed. (Mine were ok at 40K)

-Steering head bearings - get your bike up on a stand and check the bearings. A quick test without a jack is to sit on the bike, motor off, grab a fistfull of front brake and rock the bike back and forward as hard as you can. Listen/feel for a clicking or clunking. (mine was good at 40K).

-shock air pressure front and back. Old mate was a big fella and had the shocks set up waaayyyyyyy hard. Made the bike skittish as hell. I found 0psi in the rears and 7psi front works well for me (90kg) when solo. Go to 6psi rear and 10psi front fully loaded with top box and mrs and all the shit she wants to take for a bloody overnighter haha.

-tyre pressures.. everyone knows the drill there

    - Windscreen. Try changing the screen for a different height one. Big screens give you a filthy handlebar oscillation at speed in unsettled air (read highway with shitloads of traffic and a light crosswind). I ditched the uber tall stocker and went for a low profile 6" one which cleaned the look of the bike up as well as reduced the wobble factor significantly.

That'll do for now, hope you find the problem mate.

    Cheers, Richo

Tyre pressure / wear is the first place you should look Mal and don't just look at the front hoop either... a crapped out rear will freak your handling out too.

Also, forgot to mention have a good look at the air pressures in your suspension, if the pressures are out by more than a few pounds it will weird out the handling too.

Have a 96 Electraglide classic Ultra that have owned for over 5years.  Find the bike to be extremely tyre sensitive. That is its a must to have the specified Dunlops on front and back otherwise it plays up like buggery. Do not particly like dunlops or their price and availability but cannot use anything else. Bike is fine on them except for the famous electraglide wobble at high speed cornering. I believe this is cured by fitting a True Trak devise. Not worrying about it, if I want to corner that hard I would have bought a jap spots bike.
