I've only had mine for a few months but I've had no problems to speak of. The amount of engine noise threw me initially but from what I've read this is normal for a Harley. I've read that synthetic oils cut down on the engine noise as compared to the stock Harley oil, so I'll give that a go when I get it serviced I.

1st and 5th Gear are straight cut, the rest being helical. Straight cut will generate more noise. (most car performance gearboxs use straight cutgears).

My softail has had no problems. Its reliable, starts first push of the button, pulls hard, gets a heap of admiring looks --- what more could you want.

I guess with any change of model people will compare it to the last and find things that are different, but not necessarly wrong, with it.

I think all the 6 speeds have the whine in 5th gear,as mentioned it is due to the straight cut gears.I know that they do run way too hot and that is because they run way too lean, didn't take very long for my header pipes to discolour, but we seem to be spared the problem of the rattle that they had in the U.S. touring models, don't know if it is because we have a different amount of teeth on our sprockets and hence our gearing is different or not.Apart from that I haven't heard of anything else inherent to the 07 models.Harley just have a few problems with fuel injected bikes in general

Ive had my 07 since January and was initially surprised at how noisy the primary was. the knock that the starter makes just as it fires up had me concerned but the dealer assured me it was normal. none of my other 3 harleys had done this before and being my first twincam i believed him when he told me it was the new starter configuration. Well weve just got back from the goldcoast and its in gettin repaired because two teeth have sheared off the ring gear and chewed out the rotor and the stator. NICE. Oh and make sure that the unsheathed o2 sensor wires that sit in the exposed plastic cable tray dont work there way out and short with the positive terminal of the battery. if this happens it does wonders to the ECM. After it happened to mine ive found a couple of other 07s that started wearing through the wires. Other than these couple of tiny set backs we have had great performance results from the 96ers. Wonder what next week will bring?

Hi guys, new on deck here...... I've had my 07StBob since Dec and have put 17000+ k's on the clock so far without any real dramas. Early on I was worried about the engine pinging too much, but that was sorted with the HD torque curve recalibration. On the subject of tyres I got 10000 out of the Dunny rear and am not far off replacing the front. I didn't mind the Dunny on the rear and I've scrapped both sides a fair bit. running me880 metz' now and it's good, just waiting to see how much I get out of it.

Hi from Sydney and welcome to the forum stbobfhino

Glad to see that your ride is still going strong

Yeah I can scrape mine without any dramas on the Dunlops, but after running Avons I find the Dunlops not very confidence inspiring.

just an update on my 07 glide, dealer has agreed that the tranny is way too noisy  and has pulled it apart

rang to tell me they could see nothing wrong but are going to replace all bearings etc anyway

this was 3 weeks ago i wonder how much longer i have to wait for my bike?

why replace bearings if they dont need em?

    I'm with Greg,
alittle whine in 5th gear but nothing to complain about, I did alot of reseach before buying my bike to know what I was getting and an article from AMA mention a slight knock when the starter kicks over and a whine in 5th to do with the gear cut, when I change the oil in the tranny I'm going to look at Redline Shockproof to see if this takes away the whine, but like I said before its hardly noticeable.

If I stopped every time I thought I heard a noise I'd never ride the bloody thing. Despite progress in a lot of areas it's still an air cooled engine. Change your oil every 4000 Ks, warm it up before you ride it and dont rev the guts out of it and it will last for years and so will the noises.

You mean you can hear noises from your bike over your pipes?!!! I must be deaf! j/k
Seriously, no problems with mine in the 6 months I've had it.

I think the gearing noise is with Softail and not Dyna range.... but may be wrong. I have had no issues to date (touch wood)...

The whine in 5th gear is right across the range, because in the 6 speed box,5th gear is a straight cut gear, and one of the trade offs when you run a straight cut gear set is NOISE.

after 750kms ive noticed a harsh nosie at the starter engaging ?? and she clunks into most gears , whilst riding or standing still , feel the clutch might need adjusting at first service.

other than that , alot better than i was expecting out of a aircooled v-twin.

    cheers greeny
