Unfortunately now that you have added a full tube of grease into the steering head, and it came out, when the weather gets hot,you will more than likely find that you will have grease running out the bottom of the steering head, making a mess.

okay where is the grease nipple, the softail had one on the rhs. I don't remember seeing one on this bike, (08 RKC) but I haven't looked too hard yet.

Hogbag, just been out in the shed with the torch and you are right, LHS, I'm pretty sure the one on my Softail was on the RHS. Yes the grease nipple is a straight one and impossible to get to with a grease gun, even a flexible hose would be a tight fit. Well I unscrewed the nipple and guess what, no sign of any grease in the back of the nipple. What does that tell you???? Too hard for the tech guys to bother with....mmmmmmmm. Then I went searching for that old tobaco tin that has a variety of grease nipples. Mind you I haven't had the need for a grease nipple for 25 years so I couldn't remember where it was. Hunting around in every nook and cranny in both sheds, no luck. I will get one at work tomorrow. With the Softail I only used to give a couple of pumps with the grease gun every 6 months or when I remembered and I did get a bit of leaking grease out the bottom of the bearings in the summer. Better than dry bearings. I just used wheel bearing grease.
That's the good thing about this Forum we can share knowledge...........TC
