$20 for an S&S oil filter to protect a $30K + investment. Not worth the risk to me to be cleaning a used filter, even if its designed to be cleaned.

    My 2c worth.

I had the K&P for 3 yrs had no problem with it. Its a steel micromesh filter (the same stuff used in kidney dialysis treatment). It increased my horsepower and shits all over a paper filter in my opinion.  It traps dirt well u can clean it and see the dirt easily when cleaned.

I use a chromed K&P filter. It came complete with the filter wrench and a spare gasket for about $170 delivered back when the dollar was around 90cents US. It's easy to take apart and doesn't need any tools, I clean mine every 2000kms. The advantages of the cleanable filter are that you can quickly see what the filter has trapped, the magnet picks up any steel particles and after about 10 oil changes and a zillion miles you are ahead. You can take the filter from bike to bike as it fits most Harley engines. I reckon the only disadvantages over a paper filter are the initial cost and the paper probably soaks up the really fine particles like carbon etc. better.

I haven't used the Proflow filter but they look just as good as the K&P.
