Hey, Hoping someone could help out here fellas. I got a 87 softail about a month ago, in good nick and runs like a dream (for about a week or two) and then plugs get all sooty/corbonised and it starts farting and backfiring. From my experience with older 70's V8's this probably means carb is running too rich so i pulled of filter and had a squiz at the carby. Its a mikuni of some description (HSR?) so i downloaded the pdf from mikuni for it (It covers all HSR carbs) and it explained how to adjust the mixture with the screw. All good so far, However when i look in the spot that is supposed to have the screw there is just a hole with no internal thread or anything that would suggest a screw would go there. Can i buy a air/fuel mixture screw assembly to fit in here if that is whats missing or what? Would this hole or missing screw cause the bike to be running rich? Does this sound right so far to anyone with experience with these carbs?? Check out the pics and let me know what you think. Sick of fitting new plugs every couple of weeks. HELP. I got some photos of the carb but cant figure out how to upload them to this site.
