i am going to get a new harley sometime hopefully this year.

iam just curious as to which would be better suited.

i do a lot of highway miles so i want somethin thats comfy (usually a day ride is between 300-700k's a day) so i really need a bike that is comfy to do that with ease.

my mates also like to give each other a bit of a hard time so it would need to go well.

i was eyeing off the vrod but i have one of those at my disposal so i dont want to buy one of them.

the only thing on the rocker i really dont like is the rear guard but i saw some pretty cool kits to change them into a nice custom gaurd.

i have always liked the low rider. it was going to be my 1st harley until i was (unfortunately) convinced otherwise.

just wondering what you thoughts are on both these style bikes.

with the rocker does the rear tyre make it more of a pig on the road, i know my dads harley is a fair bit of a pig, but it has 6in overs and 250 rear.

which o the 2 bikes has the best suspension?

    thnaks in advance

i own a low rider and my arse gets real sore after 300 ks or so . but i probs need to harden the fuck up.

i rode a soft tail the other day and there wasnt as much of the viberation ya get on the lowrider . but go to the dya section and read up on the viberation thread .

anyways good luck with yer choice

i actually was always under the impression the softails have better suspension but thats just what i have been told.
might try to get a ride on each sometime thisyear and make my mind up then.

    Lowrider!!!

I've beeen lusting after Ube's bike - it was my second choice after the Wideglide.

Seriously though, no matter how good it is a Rocker will make you look like a tryhard. It's more of a poser's bike for the cafe latte set. Now I take it that you are female and the thought of a lady on a Lowrider...well..! Plus you will keep up with the big boys and leave the VRod MILES behind on corners - check out the lean angles on the HD site.

    Hi LB87.

I had an 02 Lowrider with a sundowner seat. Yes it was comfortable, but the HD suspension was (and still is) rubbish. The problem is that, if you have reduced travel suspension (for a low bike), then you inevitably get a compromise with the ride. To get a smooth ride you the right springing, the right damping, and as long travel as you can fit. The jolt of a bump is smoothed out over the travel of the shock. The shorter the travel, the harder the jolt you feel.

So, if you get the Lowrider, I'd recommend changing the shocks (I used Progressives), but you'll still get a harder ride than if you get something with more travel.

Of course, the Lowrider's got stuff-all cornering clearance on the right hand side, unless you change the pipes.

    Gonzo.

Common DLUX! you do not look like a chick on your Deluxe!
You don't even ride like one.
But then there was the fluffy pink cowboy hat incident.

thanks gonzo for the heads up. greatly appreciated mate.
will see how i go, i love corners so if its too limited i will probably steer clear. see how the rocker goes. i do agree its a posers bike but if you change the rear gaurd it will look no different to the other softys, just a wider arse end

a frien of mine ows a softtail and want to try my bars out (westerns) so we swapped bikes for 5 ks or so. Now hes a way better rider than me .he reakons in the corning stakes my low rider would out corner his bike any day cause of the suspension
