I'm pretty sure the configuration is different, ie most things on the Sportster changed from '04 onwards. I recently was accidentaly given some '03 chrome levers from a shop, they looked very similar to my stock ones but just wouldn't fit my '07. I've looked into seats as well and most I have seen say they will fit '93 to 03 Sporty's.
