running way to rich/TMAX

    2006 dyna 88ci streetbob, TMAX ,slip on v/h straight shots & screaming eagle stage 1 aircleaner kit..Was riding back from the 4 day long weekend, bike was running sweet all the way till Monday 80KM. from home stopped for fuel , when l started her up she was missing

    black smoke from pipes, running rough as, it felt & sounded like an electrical issue,

    fiddled with as much as l could without tools,

    started her up, sounded o.k., took off, pretty much started missing again straight away,

    1/2 to 3/4 revs she was ridable ,below that sounded & run poor,

    couldnt leave her there , had to ride home, used bit over half tank =80km.

    at home took a good look at all conections.plugs/ leads/ coil/ ..plugs & tmax censors were sooty powder  black,

    new plugs & oils replaced as l was doing that anyways,pulled all fuses/  pulled the tank checked all wiring from the injector body to the tmax, as l thought it could be a water issue after the river crossing, (didnt )pull the injector manifold, mucked about for 4-5 hours..Havnt found the problem..

    pulled the main fuse, fitted the origonal ECM & aircleaner ,left the pipes alone, went through the motions on off on off on off started and sounds good, no black smoke, no missing, havnt riden her its to hot out side right now,

     Can a TMAX loose its memory? What could be the cause of this? l didnt find any moisture problems on the out side of the bike, it wasnt bad fuel, l know its now got to be pluged in to a computer to check out the tmax settings , l cant get to one for about a  week, curious???????

    ill take anothewr look at that area, but l dont see any water/ moisture/ there....

    have checked all conections, removed ,cleaned , re-installed both exhaust sensors, spark leads ,coil conections, checked,.. im going to have to start again,and be more " thura" Took the bike over to snaps's digs last night, uploaded the latest T/MAX map, he went through all the graphs & other stuff ,changed a few settings, l dont know if he initilized again though,ill phone him later to see, Anyways its made no differance to its poor running state, l rode it over there by installing the origonal ecm. its ridable with it hooked up but wouldnt want to ride to far without fixing the issue, There is a fuel /air mixture problem l just cant find it yet..

    Check for air leaks around the inlet manifold, install new gaskets maybe. Also do the same for the exhaust manifolds.

    You might want to take of the fuel tank and empty it out and make sure it's clean, also check the fuel filter.

    checked the inlet area last week when l had the tank off, BUT before l go any further apparantly 06 models have a diagnostic (trouble code) check, so l found out last night,hold in the speedo reset button while turning the ignition key to the on position it brings up any error codes IF YOU HAVE ANY? you can then check against your
    ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC MANUAL. l dont have one but looks like id better get one! The code that came up with the origonal ECM installed was ( d 1 a 9 ) l never wrote down the error code with the T/Max installed cuase l was going to checkit out when l got home, silly billy me! ! I had to swap the ecms to get home!!!! but l do remember it was a differant error code showing, when l re=install the MAx ill write it down , ANY BODY GOT AN ERROR CODE MANUAL???????

    retsurht, its not that funny ! thought l was on to something when d1a9 showed, Do you think it shows modern motorcycle computors/ computors arn't my thing?

    Thanks for the run down on how to go about checking diagnostics, invaluable imfo!
    ive had a quick read, l'll look at printing this out cause im going to have to read through it a number of times,
    as l go along, probably skip most and start at ECT to ISS, see how that goes,, since i havnt done this before or even heard of this ,kind of looking forward to it ,ill post when ive done a check on the bike, Thanks again YOUR WORTH YOUR WEIGHT IN GOLD...

    OH BABY ! ! isnt that something,!! press buttons on your bike to check for faults,,

    DTC..P0661 / I'd say this will be the main problem im having in running the bike...(PN34329-06)

    DTC...b1004 / l dont know if this means low fuel in tank? or why it shows ? cause (S)=TSM/TSSM
    l have the part number as well, ill phone my local HD. see what thats about,(pn674779-04)

    as for the intake soliniod maybe that can be cleaned? could have picked up a speck of something in it?

    Does anyone know the proceedure for the intake soliniod check & repair ??

    havnt had a chance to look over the bike till now, got the codes to check for faults, found wot l think will cure all!!

    this diagnostic stuff sure takes the guess work out,

    can now go straight to the sorce & fix

    Hell, l might even make it to sunday breaky....

    Finny did you pick up your new ride???

    back to the drawing board...

    thats right scotty,the codes no good if you dont know what to do with it,

    But  first find the error code/codes  if any,

    write the part number down as well if you like,

    finish your hot cross bun & cuppa,

    Then find the problem part in your work shop manual/ or other

    phone around if you like!

    ask on the hd forum,

    l havnt got the T/Max hooked up right now...its the HD ecm...

    im going to hook up tmax later on maybe tonight , 

    now that l know diag exsists,and ive had a practice run,

    im feeling a bit more confident running over it in my mind before l start

    Sure, once you've gone through the motions a couple of times its like riding a bike, ,(getting the codes)

    fixing the problems the easy part, finding it / them no so...

    mate id like to go, but at this point it gunna be the soonest l can really take a good look  at  the streetbob, ive been machining brake parts/ gear linkages/ wiring loom,etc for my mates goldwing trike,its been here 4 weeks im not getting a clear run on anything lately + my day job, , and while doing stuff for all the others all im thinking about is getting mine going,, patients,relaaaaxxx, take it eeeaassyyy, l keep telling myself! ! ! ! its lunch time right now im gunna go hook up the t/max see what errors come up if any..before l go any further ..

    scotty, ive started over from scratch, cleared diag. codes re-installed the t/max . main fuse, on/offx4 ..

    poor running , black smoke &  missing as before ,.. running very rich...turned her off..

    pulled the main fuse , unpluged t/max , plugged in the HD. ecm, re-installed the origonal aircleaner/ mufflers so its back as it was from the shop. ((Thought that would be the best way to check if the problem was the T/Max.))

    main fuse in, on/off x 4 , started up, runs smooth, but idles high ,maybe around a third higher than it should, be

    l dont have a tacho......crack the throttle theres a wisp of black , still rich but ridable,

    shut her down, check diag. no errors showing up there,

    checked throttle cables to be sure they arn't the high idle issue,

    if the bike was idling correctly id be blaming the   t/max.

    but l cannot, l feel there is an issue else were, and neither ecm's are at fault at this point..

    since it seems to be a air/fuel issue ill start at the inlet manifold fittings and conections

    Got any tips??
