Given my complete lack of all things mechanical, I need a really basic layman's explanation of Thundermax, pipes and how the whole thing fits together or in other words - why should I.
Last week I popped into HD performance in Melbourne after hearing a set of pipes on a sportster that sounded great that apparently came from them. The guy that spoke to me told me yep I could have the pipes, but would need to stop the fuel running lean and he recommended Thundermax to stop the bike sounding like sh!t.
What are the symptoms of the bike running lean?
Could it damage the bkie?
Could it damage performance?
Cheers,
Jeff
You can go down the road of pipes, aircleaner and fuel management or leave it alone altogether.
If you change just mufflers for a pair of say SE slipons you do not have to do anything else. If, however you change the to a hi flow aircleaner assy then you do need to do something about the fuel management to which there are many. if you do decide to go the whole hog then i would suggest a Big Joes fuel shot priced at about $500 whereas the thundermax is close to 3 times that price. If you change to straight type pipes over slip ons i would imagine you will need a fuel management and if you do that then you may as well do aircleaner as well. The conbination of good slipons, aircleaner and fuel management will off-course give you the better performance results. before you go the road of straight pipes or such really do your home work as some of these will actually rob lower and mid range power and the 883 cant afford that. Hope that helps.
