Anyone done a top isolator adjustment on their Dyna?

What type of spanner did ya use????

I am fucked if I can get mine undone, I just don't seem to be able to get a spanner on it  where I can move it and can't really see how the hell ya do it without a specially designed spanner.

    Any hints tips etc???

Tank has to come off, bike must be vertical when you adjust it.

    Cheers.

Nah just need to loosen and raise tank, taking tank off is not required.
Crows foot spanner is all ya need works a treat.

    Whats your reason for adjustment?

I thought it was factory set.

Yea like were you having a problem where your bike was not tracking correctly?

Well I thought my dyna wasn't tracking right, so I checked back wheel alignment, it was ok, used inclinometer to check front and back disc rotor angle (they should be the same verticle angle ) top isolator adjustment was out about 3 degrees so I loosened off the tank bolts got the isolator undone and adjusted it with the help of inclinometer it reads the same angle on the front and back rotor now.
Scrape both sides evenly now where before I was scraping all the rights and no lefts.

mate i think some of us might understand a picture or a diagram a bit better i think its pretty important information that could effect a lot of people.is it possible to use a level on the rotors. i assume you cant adjust the front so you adjust the rear to match the front and also could this effect a new bike.

Did you find the when riding your bike before you adjusted the isolator the front end was askew like the front forks were twisted?

My bike has been like this since new and it looks worse when ive got a passenger! I checked the front end and all is straight. Told Frasers when I had the first service and all they said was they adjusted the rear wheel slightly.

I didn't take any pics of me doing it.
It isn''t that hard to do, just undo the tank mounting bolts, stick a block of wood under it to raise it up so you can get to the isolator, it looks like a big turnbuckle type affair and you use an inclinometer it is a digital angle gauge that magnetizes onto your disc rotor, bike needs to be in the vertical position when checking it, I stuck it on me lifter, got it straight and level. then check that front wheel is straight to the bike, check back wheel rotor angle the rotors should read within one degree of each other if they don't its not right if it is more than six degrees out something is fucked, they recommend taking it back to dealer.

When the back wheel is slightly out of adjustment it can effect steering a lot, if the bike feels wrong when cornering it is definately the first thing to check.

thanks mate i think ive got the jist of it front wheel definatley has to be straight to get a true reading i guess a string line from front wheel to back wheel will sort that out dont have an inclinometer but i do have a realy good small level use it for doing stair treads.i cant belive a bike could come out of the factory with it not ajusted perfectly as most things are assembled in jigs you no you cant fuck it up.

I think it changes as your rubber mounts wear, the swing arm swings off the bloody gearbox which is rubber mounted with the motor to the frame.
I reckon as soon as your rubber mounts get a few kilometers on em you should check it.
I am about to change my rear mount did the front at 14000klms I reckon the back one is fucked now at 19800klms.
Is definately a feel thing on a dyna.
