Well it got a bit warm here yesterday, so I decided to activate the engine idle management as I was burning up in traffic.
I had used it during the week, the hype says you will hardly notice it, and I didn't.
Anyway it was 38 yesty and we were doing a lot of stop start stuff in the traffic and I figured it was doing its stuff. However we went round a friends place later (even hottter about 40 odd,) all of a sudden at the lights and I am melting and hallucinating with the heat, my bike suddenlly sounds like a single . It was actually a nice sound. So I am thinking maybe you have to be on the verge of heatstroke before this thing kicks in however between the midday ride and the arvo ride to my mates I disabled the flapper valve in the exhaust.
So I am not sure the disabling of the flapper valve has made me notice the rumble of the single fire rear cyl cutout better. Or does it have to be over 100 degrees before it works
Has anyone else been in high heat and noticed the cutout system in operation yet.
Hey LoftyBob, you might be trying this soon out as you get Perth weather about a week later eh!
This feature has been decativated in the Ultra, with the TTS tune in now she doesn't run anywhere near as hot as it did before the tune went in.
Scotty, I have sent you a PM.
Jeeze I hate it when you guys PM becuase there could be good info that will help me and others not being posted.
The rear cylinder cut out feature was never meant to be an engine safety device, it was always meant to be a passenger/rider comfort feature. So it activates far earlier than would be if it was used as a engine overheating device. Reading the features lists of the American HD site, it says the cut out was featured to reduce rear header pipe temps when in heavy traffic. Just because it's activating, doesn't mean you are doing your engine any harm.
Still, it would pay to richen up the AFR's though.
