Has anyone had or know of anyone else who's had accident related back injuries resulting from a sissy bar ?

I've always been a bit aprehensive about fitting one, fearing what would happen to my pillion in the case o f a rear end collision.

Youre opinions/ experiences will be appreciated.

Sponge Boy i think with or without a sissy bar , A rear end collision would in some shape or form affect your pillion ,

depends if you are sitting at the stop sign and a road train forgets to stop behind you or it's just a pensioner in a gopher.

If I ever got hit from behind on the bike, I wouldn't want a sissy bar on there. Use them as little as you have to, that's why detachable ones are a great idea.

    My 0.02c worth.

A top box is one thing; first of all it's much wider and blunter than a sissy bar. a sissy bar is another.

I'd be concerned about my pillion breaking her back if hit from behind.

Seen a couple take of from some lights here a few years ago, he went, she landed on her arse and nearly got run over from the car following. No sissy bar fitted. She was not happy I can tell you, should have heard her calling him all the names under the sun.  Wonder if they have a sissy bar now???

my dad almost dumped me at a set of mights, so from then on u started going with my mum until he got one. no way would i go more than 100k on the bike without a sissy bar. why would you be worried about her safety thats just a bad omen, instead think about her comfort. as everyopne has said, if you get hit from behind you are going to have dramas, at least if the bar is there it might hold you to the bike a bit better than ending up in the cars grill. i would go with a detachable sissy bar for sure.

For what it's worth, more chance of dumping your pillion than getting hit from behind. It's a gamble either way - lets hope it never happens.
