I think Harley Davidson purposefully designs their bikes in such a way that forces you to go out and buy their kits and other aftermarket bling.
I'm on a tight budget so I have to improvise.
Has anyone else out there done a budget indicator relocation ?
Here are some pictures and notes about mine:
(1) Find a couple old high tensile 1/2" UNC bolts
(2) Re-use a couple of stainless steel spacers (made for a previous bike pannier mounting bracket)
(3) Buy a second indicator upper retainer nut
(4) Buy some 5/16" UNF high tensile bolts and a few nuts to match
(5) Braze the retainer nuts to the ends of the 1/2" bolts
(6) Borrow a lathe, machine down the retainer nuts, shorten the spacers, and cut the heads off the 5/16" bolts
(7) Cut the electrical lines to the indicators and re-route the wires out from the top tripple tree.
(8) Replace existing lower tripple tree bolts with custom made units, fit indicators, position carefully and lock with lock nut.
(9) Solder the wires back together and insulate with elec tape.
(10) Tidy up tuck away wiring using cable ties.
(11) After some minor painting the job's done. Whole thing done in two days. Total cost to me approx $8.
I don't think Harley Davidson likes guys like me.
Hey Sponge Boy, well thought out. I try and maintain a blend between the exy HD shiny bits and some well thought out mods like you have done. I think you're right about the cost of things - it seems every time I want to change some stock nuts & bolts over to the chrome version, its about a fiddy buck minimum!
thank God for ebay - the natural enemy of the Aussie HD Stealer!
cheers
