Unrelated to this case but I fucking hate 4WDs; 99% of them drive like they are invincible and everyone else shouldn't be on their road...
    Condolences to the family.

It's all about the Attitude of the driver Boys IMO.
I've got a big arse lifted 4wd with a big arse bull bar & I've never hit a f*cking thing with it & we've had it for years. It's bright Yellow & plenty of people have run into it. F*ck knows?? I also drive a dual cab ute for work which is prick to see out of. I drive sedans, wagons, vans & trucks of different sizes often too. I don't know but i think by driving all of these things just teaches you were to sit on your bike so people can see you. This of coarse doesn't mean they will look. I agree that if you don't use a 4wd as a 4wd then you shouldn't have one but remember that there's also heaps of what i call pretend 4wds that make it on the news as "A KILLER 4WD's". I've been hit up the arse by one on a bike (just ask Mrs Swoody why she has a bad back & always looks over her shoulder at every set of traffic lights), I've been pushed off the road by more then one (The last dumb bitch about a month ago had a mobile strapped to her ear) but i've also had this happen by many many others. I've come alot closer to dying at the hands of f*ck wits in sedans driving with their head up there clacker. The day I picked up my Fatty I was coming down Sydney Road Brunswick toward Melbourne two up & hadn't even got 700mtrs going through the first intersection that had been green for a fair while when a someone (no I didn't see them) come sailing through from my left. I had just glanced down at the speedo of the new bike & looked up to see a red bombodore flash before me. We all know how a Harley handles so F*UCK knows how i missed him. Took me weeks to settle Mrs Swoody down again to become settled on the bike.

Don't blame the type of vehicle, blame the dumb arse behind the wheel.

    Soccer moms/mums....  *barf*

4wds, commodores, quadbikes - they don't hit anything til some ignoramus with a bad attitude, bad skill or general dickheadry starts them up and takes them out.

RIP to the man who's family is left behind.  Tragic.

Unfortunately we don't know who is at fault here, so I say if you want a 4WD debate start a new thread. Poor bugga and bad for his family.
