Getting a tourer this year, just wondering what thje new RK was like with the screen on?

    Does it give you buffeting?

Are there better aftermarket screens for this bike?

    Thanks

    Hi berms.

I have an 07 RK classic. The general geometry of the latest looks pretty much the same from a wind point of view. I have fitted wind deflectors (which I made myself) as per the following:
members.optusnet.com.au/gonzalesb/rkc/    and select the Wind Deflectors link.

They make a huge difference to the buffeting and noise. HD make large chrome tapered deflectors that attach to the mountings for the aux lights. I guess they do the same thing, but they weigh a ton.

I am 6'2" so look over the screen as well ..get a little buffeting on the helmet but nowhere near the same as no screen

Berms, I have the 08 Classic and I'm about 5' 10 tall and I find the screen suits just fine. In fact I'm a screen convert. Sometimes I take it off for short trips into town, but any longer trips and I wouldn't be without it. I find that I look over and through the screen, depends which part of the road you are looking at.
I wear an open face helmet. I did try the screen with my full face helmet and I found that it did buffet a bit, annoying flapping from helmet. Go figure......might be the brand of helmet, who knows............twincam

    Berm,

Sorry for the delayed reply - I've been away.

Yes, the buffeting was not acceptable - mainly from a noise problem, rather than actually bouncing my helmet about. The deflectors fixed it. I went for a moderate day ride without the screen a few weeks ago, and quickly put it back when I got home. I'm a convert too.

HOWEVER, TC88b raises a good point. I wear a full-face and they definitely make it worse. Also, I'm 5'3", and I look THROUGH the top 2" of screen. So, my head's in quite a different place than rkc07, or tc88b, and probably your good self, because most people are taller than me....

The test ride should tell you the answer - just make sure you travel 80+kph. In any case, if you find it's a problem after you buy, you can always get the HD deflectors or make your own.

    Gonzo.
