FXDB StreetBob

SO I've got my heart set on a 2009 StreetBob. I took an FXSTC for a spin, it had forward controls and an exhaust, was fun as to really enjoy the ride and not care what everyone else was doing, I now realise how much fun cruisers can be.

Then the other day I took an FXDB 2007 model for a ride, forward controls and exhaust [two main mods I'll be putting on mine]. First thing I noticed was the vibration, my GOD, it vibrates friggin heaps, way more than the softail custom.

The vibration I can handle but one thing I'm worried about is, I found I struggled a bit keeping my feet on the pegs when I'd take off and also cruising at 100 ks, my feet felt like they were really hanging out the side and I had to constantly keep my legs tense to keep em on the pegs. This didn't happen on the softail custom, so I assume it's a Dyna thing yeah? Probably due to the slimmer frame?

Maybe my legs will get used to it, but if they don't, then my long rides I'm planning - Queensland, Perth etc are gonna be a bit hard on my legs.

I like the feel of the forward controls, I'm aware the stock controls on a SB are mid-mounted, the other option is highway pegs, but I'm thinking that could be dangerous if I use em heaps and need to brake in a hurry, I figure I'm better off just getting forward controls, plus another set of pegs at the front looks a bit retaded in my opinion.

I come from a sportsbike background and have only ridden a handful of cruisers, so maybe it's me not knowing how to ride that style of bike.

Anyone ridden a StreetBob before and knows what I'm talking about? Anyone who owns a Streetbob have the same problem?

I have had two bikes similar to those you are looking at, an 06 FXDB and currently an 07 FXST.

Don't stress about minor details that can easily be changed such as seat, bars, pegs.

If you don't like the vibes (and the dynas engine mounts are all happy) definitely go for the softail. Dyna steers a little better, Softail is little comfier.

Having had an original street bob i find the current one horrible. They have destroyed that 40's look. The low rider is more bucks but comes with the things you add to a street bob anyway such as pillion seat and pegs and highay pegs and would be my current dyna pick.

I get the foot float you mention on the softail at faster touring speeds.

Keep looking, reading and most of all riding them and the bike will find you.

    cheers

Not riden a softail so cannot offer a comparison, however here are my coments:

I  have a 07 Street  Bob... hate the 09 looks, especially the grey motor. Having changed the seat to a Mustang solo and only using the standard seat with add-on pillion seat the standard seat is crap. The Mustang is so comfortable. Even the guy who services the bike says so.

I have mid controls with cruising pegs... want to go for forward controls but cannot fins anything at 2"+ that i like for under $1K. At 6'2" I find the mid controls a bit cramped but like the control you get on the speed demon runs. I run the V&H Short Shots.. black was not available when I bought mine :( but now would have preferred a 2 into 1. I have no problems with the vibration, especially since I have sorted what caused the excessive vibration. Still vibrates but just enough... hey its a Harley

What boots did you have? I sometimes find issues with some types of soles on various boots, but i have steel foot pegs with rubber rings and not the standard rubber pegs. Have the Mustang seat helps with ride position as it has a little lumbur support. You actually may have been slipping back on the seat.

One other item I want to change is the bars... looking at Burleigh Bars - Ram Horn or Roller Bar

Hope that these coments help.... couple pics attached
