Whats the most comfy bike to ride out on the open road at 120 kms  for a 5' 9 bloke?     Fatboy? RoadKing? VRod?    Mid-mounts? Forwards? Floorboards?

I thought about the Electra Glide / Street Glide BUT that windscreen on the fairing just gives me really annoying helmet shakes.... I'm thinking no screen is better, or maybe a small  flyscreen or something....

    Any advice appreciated.

Take them for a ride on a test ride day, or just hit the bike shop up for a ride. I would think that floor boards would be better as it takes the weight off your ass a bit, which can get a bit sore on a long ride. RT or LOFTYBOB should be able to help in this area, but i am sure you will get 50 different opinions....glad we can help.

At that speed, forwards are probably best.

I have the 06 Electraglide Std and it would have to be the most comfortable bike i've ridden.
I'm 5'11 and find the std screen to be excellent at speed, and with the running boards you can move
your feet around a fair bit. Air shocks on the back make it smooth as over the bumps.
You will have to ride them all and see for yourself.

    Cheers

Hey mate, don't matter what bike it is as long as you are on a bike. Only girls worry about getting out of the wind.

I'm 5'8" tall & the most comfortable bike i've ridden over any distance would be a dyna with forward controls. I'm a no screen kinda guy so that style suits me. On a great day my 08 Fatboy is fantastic but with the solids in the wind you are correcting constantly & the air being cut by cars, trucks or even other bikes can make it wonder & will drive you nuts as it does me. Oh & the fatty will scrape it's way around most corners if you hit them with any sort of pace. The dyna not so much. I took a mates custom softail for a spin the other day & altough i've always like the nightrain i hated riding it. I found with the extended forward controls & the air pod he runs + the apes didn't suit me at all. He loves it. Only a good ride will find the bike that suits you best.

I'm 5'8", and I ride a 07 FXSTC, with the arse lowered 1.25" and a Badlander seat, left the mini ape hangers on her and its a very comfortable bike to ride, all that have ridden her say the same thing that its well set up and comfortable. But hey test ride a few, got to a few show and see what others have done. I went to a HOG day and saw a set of street bars on a bike similar to mine thought it looked good, spoke to the bloke who let me sit on it and I was not happy with the position I was in, its that easy.

When I got my new Heritage it came standard with the screen. My brother-in-law picked his Heritage up about three months later, also with the factory fitted 'standard" screen. His was about 2 inches lower than mine. I asked the dealer about the difference and he said thay "just grab a screen and put it on". Apparently they come in short standard and tall. I reckon the screen is fantastic for highway cruising, but take it off if I am not leaving town. If you were getting lid buffeting, you may have had a short screen. Might be worth chasing up to see if you can get a taller screen (if yu wabt one)

I agree with Swoody. Dyna Wideglide with forward controls is pretty nice. I have the quick-removable screen (58282-02) which makes a long ride a helluva lot less tiring and still looks pretty good too. I don't use it for half day rides though. Im 5' 11" and don't get any buffeting problems with it.

I sold my Superglide and bought an 07 Road King Custom, I dont like screens. Fitted a Sundowner seat and rider backrest. Recently rode from Queensland to Phillip Island for the Motogp via the Snowy Mountains. The level of comfort was fantastic it was like cruising around in an armchair

I am 6'2" tall and I can relate to the head buffeting. On my Street glide I made a 15" tall screen and cut it down until I started to get buffeting by the wind and settled on a minimum height of 10 1/2". After 30+ years of riding, you can't beat getting out of the wind - it makes country riding a lot less tiring.
