No ya have to lick it out while singing waltzing matilda with an accompaning ukelele solo!
Yeah they all overfill em I'll bet ya primary is too.
Just suck a bit of it out, no need for overfilling em at least thats what it says in the workshop manual.

Athough the dealers feel the need to overfill at every opportunity at least in the last three times I have used one anyway.

well i had the same problem when backto M&W and ask to check it and when got hm i didnt remove any still at a very high .So i ask what was going on the service manger said well some of the bikes u need to screww the cap in and some ya dont .(not what teh manual says ) so then i rang Gold coast M&W same story .Dosnt sond much of a drama but if u dont screw cap in u get a weong readinng and too much oil wich may or may not do bad shit.

So i wrote a letter to HD USA saying :

    PREVIOUS LETTER

    Hi ,
My name is Tony  I am write from Brisbane Australia regarding the checking of my engine oil in my 08 Dyna low rider.
What is happening is when I get my bike serviced at Morgan and Wackers Brisbane they are checking the oil with out screwing the cap back in, they are just placing it in .Now the problem is that the manual that comes with the bike says to screw it in to check .So what it comes down to is that there is to much oil in there if checked in the proper manner.

So I ring up Morgan and Wackers at the Gold Coast and ask them what they do and they do the same thing with the same excuse, which is some you screw in some you don’t so we just don’t screw in for all of them.

Could u please give me confirmation that either what they are doing wont wreck anything or in writing that I can show the service department that it should be done the way that is in the owners manual .

They send me a letter back with the couple of pages from the manual .Not good enuff for me sry so i sent a nother lettersaying:

    Hi ,
My name is Tony  I am writing again because I have just received your letter back to me . It contained a few pages from the manual that I already have. I am not the one who doesn’t know how to check my oil.
As I stated in the previous letter the place where I bought my bike is where I also get it serviced. The problem is that they at Morgan and Whackers are the ones that need to know how to check the oil .As I stated they check all there bikes without screwing the dipstick in which in turn puts too much oil into my bike.
I don’t think its right that I have to remove oil from my bike every time I get it serviced because they r to lazy to screw the dip stick in. They at Morgan and Whackers believe this practice is fine. I also did ask them to recheck the oil because the reading I was getting was way to high and the bike came back with the same reading. The real problem is that if there becomes a problem with my engine because of to much oil then whose going to fit that bill .I know who it wont be and that’s me .It will most likely be YOU.

What I need to know is that:
1.There is not going to be a problem with that amount of too much oil.
2.That if it is bad practice to check oil with out screwing in dipstick that I have some sort of written proof from your company. (they at Morgan Whackers Brisbane and Gold Coast have a manual which they don’t follow)
3.That if some thing goes wrong with my motor because of excess oil im not going to get the blame.

So yesterday i get a phone call fromm HD Australia saying i recived your letters and have noted all the documents and put your concern onto our computer system so if somthing goes wrong you r covered .Also ask me if it would be OK for brad whacker fro M&W to call me so i said of corse.

Brad whacker calls me and asks what the story was i told him .he assured me that his mech know how to check the oil and was probs a simple mistake .He allso went into the workshop and ask his mech how they check the oil and some do it the right way and some dont but those who dont know how much oil to put in .Then he bangs on about he he will tell his guys to make sure the oil levels r good because we have had some complaints out our oil levels .

So i said thats all good i just need it to be noted that if my engine fucks up im not paying for it to be fixed .
he said i understand that and HD Australia has u on there records now so its all good .

So hopefully it wont happen again .

I suggest u do the same thing it not right u pay fro a service and u have to get hm and add or remove oil ..

I know it dosnt help with your problem but i suppose u people need to know that if u write to then eventully they will get back to you and if u r in there puter system and something goes wrong its all good .

Funny that, got my fatty back from it's first service, rode home and checked the oil. Firstly to make sure that it was indeed changed and secondly to check the level. Had to put in about half a pint.
