I like the look of the Rocker, I live in the hills, 55klm corners etc. I always scrape my Fatboy.
Anybody got a rocker, how do the handle the tight stuff, any info appreciated
Cheers
Firey
G'day M8, have seen em in the flesh, that seat set up looks strange but they seem to go & handle OK, Paul C has a mate with one, maybe he can enlighten us all......
Yo Paulie, ya out there old M8......
I dont know how they handle but I remember I was at a dealer getting a service and they were pulling one out of a box for a dude, we were both standing there looking at it and he turned to me and said he wasnt sure if he wanted it now as he thought it looked like a poser's bike, I had to have a bit of a laugh. They are a different looking Harley, but each to their own.
I go riding up the coast road a bit with mates with Fat Boys, one scrapes his out , and the other doesn't. The one who doesn't took his boards off and put forward controls on, and they look good...just a thought, it might be a cheaper way of stopping your bike from scraping out than going out and buying a new bike...unless you want a new bike and you told your missus that your old bike is no good and you need a new one.
I think they are a bike you ride down the esplenade on, wearing baggy shorts and white sneakers with your Harley T shirt, call into the icecream shop and have a dandy and bag of dognuts. Everyone to their own I guess. That's what Harley are doing, covering all bases, they started that with the V-Rod.
if u like it - buy it- and if u dont - then dont buy it-----------------
Ah Fuck It Buy 2 And I Will Test Ride 1 And Ill Give Them A Ride Report
I've never seen so much crap in so few posts!
If you've never ridden one then shut up.
If you don't like them 'cos you prefer your own bike then shut up.
If you can make a sensible balanced comment then let's hear it as that is what a forum is meant to be all about!
The man asked how they handle the twisties. HD figures show lean angles as:
Left/Right: Fatboy 28/30 degrees off vertical
Left/Right: Rocker 29.5/32.5
Therefore you can lean it more than your Fatty. This is probably due to footboards.... yuck!
I have a WideGlide and I find the Rocker corners slightly less than the WG but I haven't really tested it hard yet!
It sticks like glue in the dry and will probably be loose in the wet like anything with a wide rear tyre.
If you wanted ONLY performance you'd buy a Buell or an R-1.
But you don't. That's why you own a Fatty! If you want style AND fair performance and street appeal then you buy a Harley and especially a RockerC. Forget the FXCW (Std Rocker). Looks a bit sad.
It's the closest HD will come to a pro-street custom for many years to come. It has plenty of possibilities to be improved on too as do all Harleys. Don't be put off by the old farts who want the same old/same old traditional Harley look. Happened with the V-Rod too. The Rocker is a hot looking bike unlike many of the HD range which are starting to look a bit dated. ( I didn't say anything about the riders... honest!!) )
There again, you will probably become part of a minority. If you can handle that then you have already signed the order form!
Firey, if you were here in WA I would lend you my Rocker for the day to try out. I guarantee you would return with a bigger smile even than you get from your Fatboy!
If it moves you, buy it! Lots of us have!
all the best
Neil
PS Happy Bloody Xmas to all you HD Forum bastards!!!! Drink too much and enjoy it!! )
Hey Neil Thanks that was exactly what I wanted to know Cheers. This thread certainly started the boys up, some for and against. I think we are all just a little bit different, heading down the same road though. I bet if we all stood around a fire Pissin up we would have a Fat night!! Even R T and Wozza,ha, My shout Gents!!!!!!!! Well it is Christmas and any excuse for a drink. Looking forward to the test ride
Hey Robert, when I get a new bike I will make up my mind if my Son gets my fatty, he has had his eye on it for a while now.
If I get a Rocker I am coming to visit you all, Reckon I will make a few new mates, get in a dozen fights, have a heap of hangovers, but still make it home on time!!!
Glad I didn't ask for any info about a Jappa, Ha,Ha
Just spotted this on the US Forum....
Here is the message that has just been posted: *************** I had an 100th Anniversary Fat Boy fitted with a Mustang seat as comfortable as a catchers mitt and was toying with the idea of buying a new 08 Fat Boy to replace it. My buddy Pete told me I ought to check out the local paper before I dropped a load at the HD dealer. I took his advice and ran across a Rocker C for a great price. Driven by morbid curiousity, I went for a look see. Smitten was I, when he rolled it out into the sun. The test ride was like trying to hang on to a motorized log. But....the bones were there and I'm working on it. I gutted the plastic "glove compartment" in the seat, replaced it with some medium density foam and it rides 100% better. On to lowering it to get rid of the dreaded "gap" and other changes I'm sure. Bike is well balanced and handles like a dream. Guess you gotta ride it to understand. Nothin against anything else on the road but I'd do it all over again.... yep...all over again
Hey frankie, the Heartland conversion does look good but then you are changing the whole concept of the Rocker with its floating rear guard to a traditional HD look. You would get the same effect buying a Softail Custom and fitting a wide-arse kit........ not that you'd need one with a 200mm rear wheel already! All for a lot less than 5 grand I would think.
By the way....... just for "firey" concerning the original post, take a look at :
http://hdforums.com/forum/softail-models/319058-rocker-on-maui-wow-what-a-ride.html
for a report on the Rocker by a Softail Custom rider. Here it is:
hi folks, on vacation for a couple of weeks, and was lucky enough to be in Maui-first time there. best roads I have ever seen. there is one road there, 41 miles, 617 turns, and during a weekday, very little traffic. when you start, you are beach side, and by the end of the route, you are in a tropical rainforest-incredible. there are several other fantastic roads that run you up through mountain passes as well up to a 10k foot volcanic crater. so, I rented a Rocker for the first week and a V-Rod for the second week. My wife followed me around everywhere we went in the rental SUV! I know, not very "green" to take two vehicles everywhere you go, but I had to get a bike onto these roads. Plus I had not been able to ride my bike back home for over 6 weeks due to the weather. I did not rent a tourer for both of us to ride, as my wife will not ride on the back of any bike since she bought her own. I have new respect for the Rocker. I always thought with that 240mm rear tire and extended front end, it would probably handle like a pig-boy was I wrong....turn-in with this bike is great, laying it over side to side through numerous combination S curves was no problem. Now, it's not a sport bike for sure, and I did have to slow down through some turns, as I scraped the peg feelers fairly often, but for a 700lb. cruiser, it was impressive how I could slam it through the turns. I'm sure the low mounted drag bars help the handling, as well as the low seat placement, similar to my Custom. You Rocker owners have got the total package-a bike that looks great and handles the same way. Don't get me wrong.....it's NOT a ST Custom, but it's really nice:-)
