Who does! and if your not a qualified mechanic you could be strife should something happen.

Be careful, I now the stealers charge top dollar, but you dont want to give them an out if you need to make a warranty claim. I reckon they might ask the question as to whether the bike has been serviced by an authorised HD service shop. Its then up to you to prove it or that it was done to HD specs.

IMHO the first service should be complimentary.

My experience with the HD shops is bad. These silly bastards cannot even do any oil change properly (my experience) there's no HD College like in the States.
The last time I took mine in for a tyre change (as I hate these) Great Southern HD's monkey, sorry (technician) left my grip hanging off my ride & pissed off. I had to borrow a screwdriver & do it myself.
Now I get my local mechanic to change the tyre & I fit the wheel myself (at least they made me self reliant!!).

It's better to do what you can yourself & go to the smaller shops who are in servicing because they want to be.(Just my 50 cents).

I was unlucky enough that I took my ride in for its first service at a dealer because it was the reason I now do all my own servicing. Paying $325 for a first service is a rip and not only that ,I got my brand new spotless bike back cover in dirt and water marks, from them giving it a wash (which it didn't need) and then leaving my ride outside wet ,which on the day was very windy .Dust and dirt flying everywhere to land on my wet bike ...not happy. So I ended up buying a workshop manual and I have been doing my own servicing ever since. I buy the oils that I want and I service it in my own time and I enjoy doing it. Money saved goes on tools and now acessories.

Nah they don't have RRPs. They price themselves - ie. overheads, maybe a discount if you bought your scoot on them. I got quoted $251 for the first service @ 1000 miles... Whilst I'd never consider the salesman to be my pal, he did get me around $75 knocked off V&H slip-ons a few weeks later... Thus I'd try to negotiate under his original price... Anyway with Christmas coming up I'm probably gonna be S.O.L. getting it done til 2009.

Love to be able to do it myself, but would also like it to be checked out though. I know a couple of guys from Pablo's from when they were in Richmond. They'd let me watch the service to learn maintenance on my 250cc, I'm thinking I'll be looking them up...
