Target Practice

Though as much as the fuzz can be mostly a hindrance, when their jobs demand getting in their way of potentially life threatening assailants, ideally they should be supported. I am in full agreeance though that this is an abomination - and that taser weapons would be a plenty better option in cases like these...

Nightsticks are hardly seen anymore. Police are often too quick on the capsicum spray for things like soccer matches anid night clubs and innocents cop it. Next option up they have bullets... One is too strong for regular, more common occurrences and for more serious problems, the only other option is a gun. These things are how riots start and police forces get tied up in them - look at Redfern and Greece, and Los Angeles if you head back about 18 years.

A paralysing sting in the ass doesn't sound like something I want but I'd take it over myself or others being killed or maimed and the aftermath that entails. Thoughts with the young kiddo's family.

Now dont HATE the players HATE the GAME.   And dont hate me for what im about to say.  This fuckin Goverment that are so tight in supplying the cops with tazzers,.......... I have been in a couple of situations were the cops have pulled there guns on kids, And it's Fuckin Scary , But when your confronted with a kid with a machete and dont care who he chops to get out of the situation he has put himself in,.... Some of them are so fucked up on ice and other kinds of drugs they dont care. Im not sticking up 4 the cops, But i see alot that goes on, And there is a shit load that the public dont see or hear. (What would you do if someone came at you with a knife),    And 4 the justice System......Well it  Really needs a shake up.

4 Example 2yrs ago a 17yr old was in pysch for something, did about 4 weeks got let out  Jumped a taxi driver and killed him.I believed he stabbed him, You might of heard of this a couple of years ago it did hit the news. This shit does happen and it happens every day, Getting back to the cops that put 7 bullets into this kid, Why the hell can't they go 4 the legs or the hands.           I was trying to explain it to my 16yr old son and why they pulled the trigger but i couldn't,         But really no-one really knows what happened exept the cops that pulled there trigger.

"And there is a shit load that the public dont see or hear"

I think Finny is pretty well spot on here. My first instincts are to condemn the cops as they are not very popular in these circles of late. However we don't know all the facts.......simple. Tazers are on trial..........why, haven't they got enough reports and information on their effectiveness from overseas use????

I will wait and see the predicted outcome of an equiry..................twincam88b

I agree with all of what has been said, however in the UK all the cops on patrol only have a batton, no guns, no tazers, no capsicum spray. If the situation gets out of hand support is always nearby. The proper people with proper qualifications to handle these situations are called. Again, I believe that the cops were at fault here and not the community. Apparently this kid was about 10-15 metres away and if the 3 cops who decided to open fir all fired at his legs they would have saved a life. One of the 3 cops would have hit him in a leg you would think.

BUT I was not there and don't know the whole storey.

What range has the capsican spray ? If this kid was 10 to 15mtrs away then thats the closest the spray would have been activated .If capiscan spray is that effective all the police would have been effected. What size were the Knives ,if they were for sale at K Mart at best they would have been large carving knives. It seems the kid was only a threat if he tried to throw a knife from that distance ,33 to 50 feet. and the kid would have been luckey to be 70kg. The kid was in the wrong.
BUT I don't think he was the only one.

My 2 bobs worth. The poor kid played with fire and got his fingers burnt. Its ok to say the cops over-reacted, but it doesnt take you long to cover 2 or 3 meters. I have participated in post motems as part of my job and seen plenty of people that have died a violent death (though not via murder). It doesnt take a major weapon to wound someone severley enough to kill them. The latest is that the kid planned it, so is it suicide using police as the mode to do it.

When I was that kids age, if you had a fight it was fists only. You didnt carry a knife "just in case", you didnt pull pickets of a fence to belt the crap out of someone who was already down. If the cops caught you skylarking or generally being a pain in the arse to someone, they gave you a kick in the butt and sent you home.

Its all this bullshit going on on TV/video games etc that are making kids insensitive to extreme levels of violence. They have trouble telling the difference between fact and fiction and I reckon they often think the shit that occurs in shows like Home and Away, neighbours etc is what eal life is actually like. Kids now are taught that they have rights and everyone should respect them They dont realise that with rights come responsibilities. They have to also realise that other people also have rights, and life is generally a compromise if you want to get on with other people and not be shitting in other peoples nest all the time.

Sorry, started to rave, but thats my 2 bobs worth

I read on the internet that a reasonably fit person is able to cover 7 mtrs in one second so if the kid was say 10 mtrs away from the cops he could cover that distance in 1.5 sec, thats not much time at all.

Apparently pepper spray that police are now using in Australia can reach the target that is 6 mtrs away and thats if there is no side wind, but is most effective at approx 3-4 mtrs. Thats less than one second if he decided to run at them.

In todays "West Australian" newspaper they stated that one of the cops "breached departmental procedure and fired a warning shot into the ground" before the poor kid was shot so it looks like coppers gave him a chance to put the knives away and surrender.

Again as you guys wrote here, I wasn't there so I wont judge. This is a hard one.

My thoughts go to the kids family, his Mother etc but also to the coppers. They will have to live with the fact that they killed a 15 years old teenager for the rest of their life.

It is easy to condemm all parties involved in this situation

What was the kid doing in the first place ..if he hadnt put himself in that possie then he wouldnt be dead ..thats the first thing ... noone knows what was going through the kids head at the time, what his intentions were .. noone deserves to die, well some do but ..,

as to the police .... lots of things can be said ... 4 cops shooting to take one down?? if their training was effectivce only one cop with a gun would have been needed to take the kid down ... they would have been shitting their pants I am sure .... they come across enough pyscho's pumped up on drugs that they also know that 4 of them may not be enough to control one without weapons, even that being a kid

why they actually ended up shooting in the first place means that the situation escalated for some reason ...

if I was a copper I would prefer to carry a weapon than not ... life is so cheap to a lot of people these days .. they just dont care

blame has to go to both sides, I am sure it could have been handled differently ... but what must be remembered is that none of us were there, none of us know what was going through the heads of the people involved

more than one family was affected as a result of this ...the kids family in that one member will no longer be around ...the relevant cops families because they will be around but have to deal with the head noise that comes as a result of killing someone

i read the same accounts as all you .. the kid was a fruit loop aching for trouble and he got it ... better dead now than another hoddle street in a few years time ... i feel sorry for the family of the kid and cops ,but i don't feel sorry for the kid ... he's dead and he no longer cares about the stupid thing he done
