Talk to your doctor about some kind of exercise program to strengthen the muscles (abs etc) that support your back. Getting another bike is your choice after that.

Lighter upright bike then try a Ducati Monster at about half the weight of the Dyna.

I agree with the others tho once the thing is rolling a HD is no heavier than any other bike and much lighter than its 300kg would indicate. Try different seat, peg and bar combos till you get a comfortable posture.

The standard seat on my FXST has me in pain in 3 hours without any back problems, the sundowner is like a lounge in comparison and supports the lower back.

Try to borrow some seats and give it a go. The standard lowrider seat is not too bad either I had one of these on my St Bob.

    Good Luck!

    cheers

I can vouch for the sundowner seats they're great, my back is not so good either but it supports the lower back, mid mounts and highway pegs on the FXDL, pleasure to ride.............

If it was a choice between getting rid of the forward controls and getting another bike, I think I'd go for getting rid of the controls.

I had a 02 Lowrider before my current Roadking Classic. Yes, they're low, but part of that is because the suspension is short (=short travel too). The suspension, as with most (all?) Harleys, is crap. If my back hurt, I'd be getting the best, longest travel suspension I could.

The Sundowner seats are great - highly recommended. Maybe you could look at a backrest too?

I always thought that you were supposed to ride your bike not carry it.

    So, Toxic,

you want to give someone with a sore back a bike that has:

    forward controls,
    a thin saddle, and
    bugger-all suspension.

    Works for me....

By the way, Theseus, what's the bike in 1966? Can't make it out from the photo.
