Hi to all,
Would like to find out your opinions on the topic of seats for a 2008 superglide custom. Im finding on mine , that if i go for a ride non stop for about 2 hours my backside starts gettin a wee bit sore. Maybe my scottish arse is not as heavy duty as u aussies.
So, thinking of replacing the stock seat for a more comfy one. Has to have pillion one to for ma lassie im married to. Have heard that the sundowner one is pretty comfy, but thought id find out for myself what other HOG good people with more experience than me think on this subject. Its my first harley, and luv the bike, just gettin an aching rear end !
Would warmly appreciate any advice from all of u. thank ye in advance laddies an lassies.
Scozzy.
Stay safe everyone, cheers.
Scozzy,
I found that if I don't have a backrest I get a very sore back after a while. On my previous bike (Kawasaki Vulcan) I made a custom add-on pad which fitted at the front of the pillion seat. This helped enormously. Now with my FXD I made a pillion seat with a similar feature altough it's built into the seat. Went for a good ride on Saturday and it works really well. See my post FXD Pillion Seat Project for pictures.
Without a back support I find that I tend to slide back during acceleration. To counter this I tense up my back and this eventually results in back fatigue/soreness.
Also I find that with a backrest I tend to have a better posture (less hunched) which also helps.
A mate of mine has a V-Rod with a good seat (it also has a backrest type feature). It was a Sundowner brand seat which is available through the Harley accessory book. Not sure what model though.
BTW, I agree with Rodders; forward controls will help. I'm planning on fitting some in the near future.
Scozzy, I can tell ya what NOT to get....stay away from the HD Badlander seat if you have a regular passenger...looks great on a Dyna cause of the low profile over that big guard, and the Harley name stitching. The front is comfy enough for a few hours riding. However, it only has enough padding in the pillion to carry a spare helmet (...or a carton o'milk, if that's what she told me to get while I'm out!!)
Second the highway pegs too, it's good to be able to move between the two riding positions, 'specially when covering a lot of k's.
