motorcyclist disqualified until 2028 for riding at more than 200km/h through heavy Sydney traffic while under the influence of drugs has begun a two-year jail sentence.

Craig Douglas Thompson, 37, led police on a high-speed chase through western Sydney on May 31, where he reached speeds of more than 200km/h on the stolen motorcycle.

The pursuit began at Jamisontown and ended in Glenmore Park 20 minutes later, with Thompson outrunning police on the road, but pursued by the Polair police helicopter.

Police on Wednesday released video footage of the chase, which shows Thompson weaving through heavy traffic, crossing onto the wrong side of the road, riding in breakdown lanes and driving through red lights.

The footage even shows Thompson riding onto the driveway of one house, where he fell off the bike, but remounted before police had the chance to stop him.

The pursuit ended when he abandoned the motorcycle at the side of the M4 freeway at Glenmore Park, before running into the bush and strolling into a nearby home.

He was arrested by police who surrounded the building, after receiving directions from the Polair helicopter.

In Blacktown Local Court on October 15 Thompson pleaded guilty to eight offences, including dangerous driving while disqualified, driving under the influence of drugs and goods in custody.

He was sentenced to a maximum two years in jail, with a 12-month non-parole period, and disqualified from driving until 2028.

He began serving that sentence on Sunday.

Thompson was on parole for previous break and enter and stealing offences at the time he was arrested, police said.

Airwing commander, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Bown, praised the officers involved in Thompson's arrest.

"All the officers involved deserve praise for their efforts in apprehending the offender without anyone else being injured," he said in a statement.

"The assistance provided by the Airwing to the officers on the ground demonstrates the effectiveness in catching unsuspecting motorists who break the law.

"At any given time Polair may be hovering in the skies above and tracking offenders who aren't even aware of their presence - and as this man found out there was nowhere left to hide."
