I went to the 2nd event 2 years ago and this one was much bigger and better supported. Luckily, the weather was brilliant which always helps! I enjoyed it very much and reckoned it was well worth the $15 entry fee. The atmosphere of the place was great...... all bike fans sharing the day... some great racing..... more commercial exhibits (including Supercycles) which was good to see. I thought Frasers tent was a bit lacking in vigour but I guess that they really don't need to over-promote their brand if they can't actually get enough of them!
Many of the food outlets had long queues so we took a walk down the main street which was deserted. We had a snack at a local cafe at very reasonable prices and sat outside watching the odd bikes cruising down the street. Not surprisingly, there was a queue out the door at Red Rooster...... hmmmmmm..... )
I think the event could be improved a little by only allowing parking for bikes in the main drag (on the Sunday at least). It would add to "inclusion" of the local community in the bike event and also help business for many of the shops on that street. It would give the event a focal point apart from the main festival area which is only 50m away! Most of us enjoy walking past hundreds of bikes even if some of them aren't Harleys!!
I would also commend the Police for actually ASSISTING the bikers getting there by holding up oncoming traffic to make turning easier and safer. What a GREAT concept that is!!!!!!!
So, what did YOU think?
Yep it was a great weekend, damn near didn't go, had that will I wont I thingy but prevailed and absolutely no regrets.............I even got some attention by the fuzz but they let me off with a mild warning.
What I enjoy most is the company of likeminded mates, like the beeza's and Crasher's and Ho's, it's a laugh a minute, talk shit and ogle at some very impressive machimery.......
I will certainly put this event on my calendar for next year..........
Bt
my only regret was not going up Saturday.... I think that coordinating the MAD ride with the Northam festival was a great idea. I hope that it becomes a regular thing which will mean that both it and the Northam festival will only get bigger and better. The weather was a bonus and made a big difference. I went with Noit last time and it was cool and nowhere near as many people. Think they will be looking to expand soon.
The cops were great on the ride up giving us a fairly clear run..... but the presence of speed traps was an overkill
roll on next show
Went up on the Saturday, accommodation was booked months prior, also thought it was well worth the entry fee just to see Matt Mingay (spelling ??) on his new Harley doing those stunts, if only!!!
We were within walking distance to the racecourse so were able to listen to all the Bands Sat Night for nicks, saved on the $65 entry.
All in all I thought the event was great, didnt bump into anyone from here apart from Jason who had his scoot in the show and shine, wonder how he went, does anyone know, was watching the Motards.
The pub prices were overinflated though $9ea for a corona, ouch.
Will be booking again for next year as the ball & chain thought it was shit hot too
