Some basics please!

Despite reading all of the stuff on this thread, I am not sure what the options are (and how many there are). It seems like there are a few "add on" modules which affect the fuel/air mixture, allowing EFI tuning as you would retune a carby (but electronbically). Which fit into this category?  There also appear to be some software avaiable to retune the ECM without adding a module? If so, which are these? How do these compare to a dealer retune, or are they the same?

One general question, do any of these allow idle speed to be adjutsed (down)?

    Regards

So Scotty, thanks for clearing that up.

I understand the SERT costs about $640, and HD Aedlaide said they would "tune"/flash it for free to suit my application, which is just slip on mufflers at present but hope to add upgraded air cleaner which I understand will need the recalibration.

Are you a local (ie Adelaide) HD mechanic? If so, would a "tune" be a better way of recalibrating my set up? If so, can you do it?

    Regards

If you are looking for value for money you should look into the "Dobeck FI-1250ST" that I've got for sale at $299.-!! It does the same job as the "Fuel Shot" but has 4 pots instead of push buttons, all you need is a small screwdriver. The unit is new in box with instructions for easy install and tuning. If you are interested email me at "hazza@myself.com". Postage within Oz is included. Cheers, Hazza.

    Hi Hazza,

The Unit you are referring to is a previous generation to the Dobeck Unit, the basis of the FuelShot. The Fuelshot programming and configuration has been modified with 6 modes of adjustment as per previous threads.
While the Gen 2 unit may be suitable for some peoples needs, I suggest that people ensure the unit is to suit their bike if they choose to go down that path. The units are designed for specific models due to injector types and parameter settings. The trim pots are not absolutes butrather relative adjustments.

    Kind regards

    Mick

The FI-1250ST is a current plug and play unit and fits 06 Dyna and all 07up 96EFI twins exept Sportster and Vrod! I'm sure you know that Mick.
    Merry Christmas to all, Hazza.

    No Probs Hazza,

It also won't fit on 08+ tourers. Injectors changed on the 08 tourers just to make life interesting.

All the best for the festive season.

    Cheers
    Mick

    Scotty

I refer back to my previous post where you replied that you could tune it for $100. After doing a lot more readinf I now understand what all these things do, but can't understand how you "open up" the stock ECM (I understand thats what the SERT allows)

Also , what is PM me?

    Thanks Scotty

What you are saying is that the cost of the SERT software to "open up" the ECM is really only a way of getting money, the ECM is always able to be reprogrammed if you have the right software to do so. IS yours SE or other? IF SE, how do you get around the single VIN dedication I understand the SERT uses?

;) A silly joke to interrupt what I'm finding is great reading, as I know pretty much zilch about all this - cheers.
