Fuel injector problem

I have had a bit of trouble with "rough" running when riding at a steady speed lately,
although using full throttle seems to smooth things out a bit.
Today I discovered that there is corrosion occuring in the electrical connector to the front fuel injector.
Tomorrow I'll clean it all up , and give it a good dressing of dielectric grease, and see if it makes a difference.
Has anyone else had a problem like this?
Any ideas as to why this is happening??

Moister in it would be my guess.

half way through 06 different injectors were fitted from factory with a different spray pattern so depending on your model and year might pay to see if you have the newer ones fitted, the dealerships were swapping them out under warranty.

Do u have a sportster? i have a 883c n find my bike to do the same thing i notice it alot more on rougth roads. it seems like it is missing n farting once u give it a bit it seems to sort itself out. i had corrsion in the fuse box i cleaned that up n greased it may have to ck out injecters as well n see if that helps.

    weelllll,
I have now got rid of 99% of the problem.
    moisture.....yep, corrosion in fuse box..yep.
I have slathered dielectric grease on the injector connections, and a lot of other electrical connections as well.
I actually took off the fuelshot to see if it made any difference ----oohh what's that popping noise - decel!! - fuelshot went straight back on..!!
There is still a funny little miss now and then.....I dont know what to make of it, but I havent done every connector yet - so I will do the rest
    and see what happens.

It amazes me that within three months of buying this sportie, I'm doing this at all.
H-D, the wiring on these late model bikes of yours is CRAP!!
I even found that one spare fuse was missing.
Look out Fraser's, I paid $12,500 cash for this bike, and I do expect every little bit of it to be there!!
I wonder what else is missing.................................

I might chuck some injector cleaner into the fuel and see if that helps too,
has anybody out there done this at all??

    Cheers

Thats great. looks like my bike will be getting the same treatment to remove the coff n fart when cruzing i hope it works. the bike shouldnt need the injecter cleaner in it but if it makes u feel better then go for it. how much corrosion was in the injecter harness? where did u get the grease from i could only find a small tube of grease in a hydrolic shop in town . repco or auto pro didnt no what i was talking about when i asked for dielectric grease.

    here's a link
    http://www.permatex.com.au/_products/Industrial/lubricants/specialty+lubricants/Permatex+Dielectric+Grease-1775.aspx

I got the Autopro shop here in Morley to get some in, once they looked at the Permatex catalogue they found it.

As for the nasty green stuff in the connectors, apparently it only takes a little to stuff around an electrical circuit, and I had several little globs, Yukk!!

    Cheers

Thanks for the heads up Danaj, I'm gonna look into this as well, don't have a prob but I don't think it will hurt to keep moisture out of connectors...........

I'm also wary of where the hose is directed when washing the bike........

    Hi Bobtail,

glad this may be of some help,
I found the fuse box area had a fair bit of corrosiveness happening as well, but this is just under the left-hand side-cover on a sportie,
not that well protected from the world...
As I ride everywhere, and it's gonna rain again tomorrow, this grease is gonna be my best friend..haha!

after reading danaj22 post i pulled my bike apart went over all the conections but could not find any corrosion. i have had problems with the fuse box i fixed that up a few months ago. i replaced the systems relay on my bike took it for a run it seems to have fixed the problem(same as what danaj22 was having) the bike is much better to ride was starting to be come a pain when i hit rough road or a pot hole. the relay i put in i dont think its water proof like the stanred one but will go n c auto elec tomorrow n c if i can get one

I'm never one to add "cheap additives" to solve a problem...... BUT...... I recently had SERIOUS problems with my 2.5 liter V6 Ford Probe. Went on for months. Missed 1 or 2 cylinders really badly, intermittently,  but only after at least 15km of warming up. I tried everything. Nothing worked until I chucked a $13 bottle of injector-cleaner from the local car bits shop into a tank of fuel. It hasn't missed a beat since!!!

I am completely convinced now especially after my mate who just did 18,000 km in 6 weeks around Oz said  that he chucks a bottle in his Moto-Guzzi tank regularly to counteract some of the possibly daggy fuel from outback bowsers.

It can't do any serious harm to your motor so is worth trying at least.
