I have heard/read so many MISS-informed opinions on these things I nearly cancelled my order for one!

So here is what I belive. It is - FUCKING INCREDABLE

My other bike is a 125GP road racer and trust me we spend shit loads on data collection/interpretation.

This unit and PC program can, in the right hands, do stuff to my Softail that cost me $3500 to have set up for a bloody 2 stroke 125 Honda!!!

Dealers don't seem to give to much info on what your paying for so here's what you get. A CD ROM with various manuals and programs you best not use UNLESS you really DO know what your doing and an lump of techo filled plastic that any H-D dealer should be able to plug into their laptop and your bike. This plastic thing lives on the shelf at home, not on your bike, it just downloads stuff off your bike to the laptop for the mechanics to look at and then it tells your bike what the spanner spinner thinks the spark advance and injection amounts/timings should be. YES this makes it a fully ajustabe ignition and injection unit.

Heard from a dealer the other day that all H-D dealers are required to have in-house dyno's whith in 3 years, does this mean a restricted form of SERT across the H-D line up for 2010?

    Active intake and exhaust thingies.

How bad is this, posting to myself?

08 active in and out things are different to 07. Your H-D dealer can, while fitting other breath in - breath out stuff, make these things IN-active without the need for other plug-ins. Unless you replace the whole exhaust system, ie. no balance tube, then you will still need the plug-in to do that.

    Hey Deadly  hows it going.

I was looking at the SERT but decided to get a TMax w/ Autotune.

Installed my self and changed pipes to V&H so I could get rid of that crappy Exhaust valve thing. But should go better just because its lighter without it.

When I replaced the Aircleaner with the Stage1 SE I disconected the air speed sensor and tapped her up.

Haveing the TMAX means none of these are needed and no error messages appear.

The TMax comes with 5wire wideband O2 sensors which monitor the tune continually. Had a bit of problem with it popping on overrun but have updated the software and was given a map to match my bike and now is 90% better. Still pops ocassionally but no more than my 03 Deuce with SEII pipes and download from harley.

Only had my bike a couple of days before I put it up on my jack and ripped into her. Much to the disgust of my Wife LOL.

Enjoy ya Ride as there is nothing better.

    Hi Crasher,

I have installed many ThunderMAx replacement ECU on softails and have seen a lot sold to new buyers with the wrong map downloaded into them from new, ThunderMax comes wit over 400 different maps and the manuals are next to non for information that will help with other types of ECU's. I do not personally run the TMAX system on my bike as you cannot ride with a pc cable attached with the seat on a softail, if you run a Dyna you can but if the bike is new it will not fit with the alarm module being under the ECU, If TMAX had any sense they would get the PC cable attachment socket to the side of the module and all would be well. I opted for the SERT "Screaming Eagle RAce Tuner" as you dont do a canned download, the unit consist of 2 cables and a black box in between that connects to your existing HD ECU and your PC, it comes with a very respectable manual and information file on all the supplied maps that you can mess with the only changes I made to the map I used was to lower the idle rev limit at all temperatures. Also popping can happen from any purchased replacement ECU if your bike is not set up correctly from the first instance. 1 Problen I have found on many Softail's is the TPS not set correctly and this surfaces to the top of the problem table as far as i am concerned, the symptoms is very easy to confirm, with the bke attached to to pc and letting it warm up if you notice the reves not being steady as it gets to running temp it is usually "ALWAYS in my experience" the TPS not set correctly at the HD factory.

Also what is not known by many is that when you use the TMAX with Exhaust sensors it goes into closed loop " unless you stipulate open" , without it can only do open loop. The HD SERT unit does not use 5 wire sensors so it's variance is less than the TMAX in closed loop, but when you do WOT it goes open loop for power and at steady throttle goes closed loop.
