Want to eventually change the rear fender on the dyna to a bobtail style and was wondering the best place to source one from was, and rough sorta price. From what I understand they come with some sort of kit .I'm fairly green and will be first to admit I know stuff all about this kinda stuff but ya gotta start somewhere I guess. Any help appreciated. Cheers

Just search for them and you will find heaps of stores that sell new or keep an eye on ebay. You will probably have to have one sprayed.

Here is an example of what you can get for your money..

If it is going on an 06 and later and your going to use the standard harley bobtail, the kit has all the bits except the gaurd, but the problem is it is only a half gaurd with a lower plastic half

The earlier gaurds are 20mm narrower than the later ones, I have one fitted but had to strech it out to make it fit, I am still looking for a full gaurd that is wide enough to fit the 06 and up dynas

I wonder if the holes for mounting Dyna seats still match up on a bobtail fender?

Wouldn't mind doing the bobtail rear myself!

As for the seat mount hole, if its genuine should be no problem. Aftermarket fenders seem to have no holes. Drill to suit your ride.

Any idea on what it costs?

When I fitted my earlier gaurd to a 07 I had to open the side holes a little, mainly to take the bolt diameter.

its seat hole line up ok,

This photo is with my custom seat on and the braket lines up, I also have an standard earlier seat which needs to have a new front brakect made to locate it,,but it fits in position and appears to line up

the solo seat dosen't fit properly , there is a gap at the front of the gaurd, but I manage to space the bracket down to meet the gaurd

l got the bob guard off american ebay for $27us + postage (a god damn bargain)it was mint finished in like a candy black pearl, for my 06bob,
got the mounting kit to suit from St.Pauls Harley in the states,
l found better postage costs they use usps much cheaper than ups or dhl, ive bought a bit off stuff from them ,
the mount kit from memory was about $30us cheaper than chicargo HD.offered,
The only issue l had was my bike is black denem, & the guard l purchased had mint paint, it took a while to get my head around painting it black,
    to mtch the rest,,,

     FXD09

Don't want to hi-jack ya post mate  but can anyone out there with a 2000 model WG, up to when they changed the width of the rear fender, tell me the width of their rear fender thanx

The reason I would like to know this is because I would like to fit a 150 tyre to my 99 model which has a 7" wide rear fender and a 1 1/2" belt.

And if so if the later models stuck with the 7" fender, up till 2006,  would all I need to do is change the belt to a 1 1/8" and get a 2000 up pulley and a 3/8" spacer to do this conversion.

    Thanx
