Any Tuners in Sydney that know 08 RKings

I have an 08 Road King: 103, 211, SERT, SE slip on, stock headers.  85hp and 86ftlbs of torque, I expected more.  Maybe when I get a better exhaust.

No one seems to be able to fix the problem with the throttle response off idle.  Suckered by HD.  If I had known, I would have stayed away from the FBWire.

I have looked at the Xied, not sure - T/max does not have a ECM for these bikes yet.  My only choice seems to be to find someone who really knows how to work a fix with the SERT.

I would really appreciate anyone being able to give me a direction to head in or give me the name of someone in Sydney that can fix this problem?

    Mick,
Especially when the bike gets hot and in traffic the throttle does not respond the way it should. Load the motor by letting out the clutch and the motor near stalls or does stall. The bike idles ok but twist the grip for take off and it hesitates and does not have the immediate power drive through the clutch. Hope that makes sense.

When you had it dynoed, did they tune it or just load a canned map and give you a dyno reading?

    cheers

The first dyno tune got rid of the heat but the bike lacked punch. The second dyno brought the heat back but the bike out of closed loop goes a lot better. The first was a modified canned map, the second more than likly a modified canned map. Both maps had the throttle response issue, the second more noticable because the bike gets hotter quicker but this also could be because the weather is warming up in Sydney now.

    Thanks

    Hi Fred,

Im not sure if the throttle issue is map related or FBW related.

we can take a look at it for you.
One option is to go with the FuelShot which is designed to adjust fuel load based on load the bike sees along with having the bike run significantly cooler, but we should be able to sort out the tuning with the SERT ( I take it you have your dongle for the SERT).

We are based in Albion Park Rail, just south of Wollongong if you are interested.

    Kind regards

    Hi Scotty,

maybe you can assist Fred with some guidance as to the cause of his problem. If it is the TBW, then he won't need to waste his time chasing ghosts, and can focus on the right area.

    Cheers

    Thanks Mick, Hi Scotty,

I have a SERT. If I had known maybe I would have got the SEST or TTS
My understanding is at idle the bike runs in closed loop. This means lean AFR (14. something) until the rpm are above a certain level when it can drop out of closed loop and go into open loop. When the bike gets hot the problem seems to be worse, maybe gets leaner leaner, twist the grip and its not rich enough to bogie. Instead you have to baby the clutch to get off the mark. Narrow band O2 sensors dont let the bike to fuel rich enough in closed loop mode.
That's why I asked about those Xied type products at the start of the thread to see if they really can trick the ECM into compensating for what is seeminly real lean readings from the O2 sensors.

This is something I have to fix. One day when I need to burn rubber, this wont cut it.

    Hey RT

Life was simpler with my FXDWG as well but times change. I dont want to put shit on HD because after all my RK rocks. It was tempting just to jump on and ride down but lifes busy till way after Xmas.

    Hi Scotty,

I will have to really check out this throttle lag a bit more. I did not get the feeling the lag was the problem. I have been thinking that as soon as the motor is loaded by engaging the clutch, the motor does not have power and stalls or wants to stall. If I sit at the lights and twist the grip in neutral or with clutch in, there is pretty good response. Not as good as my old wide glide with cable though. I would have also thought that throttle lag would be there irrespective of the temperature. Just a thought and if you are on the case a little more info.

    Thanks
