Man, couldn't beleive it today, went to fit new SE spark plugs and discovered that the size is not the norm, I mean I have a 13/16" and 5/8" spark plug sockets but not a bloody 11/16" !!! . Been working on all sorts of machines over the years but always got by with either of the first 2.
In case anyone was concerned I managed to sort out my issue with the SE spark plugs and got myself a 11/16" spark plug socket, I went to a local Indy to find out where to get one and discovered he was even using the wrong size, (18mm), he said it was a bit loose but did the job. Dont think I'll be getting him to do any work on my bike Although he did point me in the right direction (Mitre10). He also uses "Spitfire" plugs and said they are the same as SE just not as expensive which is nice to know.
SE Platinum spark plugs $12 each, I know a lot of money but it's only 2 items, plus I'm used to paying $14 a plug for my car. I got the SE 10mm HT leads so I thought I would go with the SE plugs since I was throwing money away.
As I said a local Indy sells "Spitfire" plugs which he says are the same for half price.......after I already had the SE's.
From the box:
Triple Platinum- more points of platinum than any other HD plug
Platinum surfaces provide superior erosion resistance
Patented Split "V" side electrode better exposes the spark to air/fuel mixture
Fine wire center electrode improves starting characteristics
Wank Wank Wank............................
The main reason I changed my plugs was that HD changed only one for some shit reason I cant remember now at my 8k service, didnt like that as I always change all plugs when required. The plugs I took out looked good, whitish/tan deposit (correct mixture), no erosion and I didnt have any problems starting (bike has done 14k)....so.........why the fuck did I buy SE's ??? Havn't ridden since the change, if I notice any difference in performance, which I doubt, I'll let you know.
Yeah just saw the thread.....wish I had read it first I would have just got standard plugs. Anyway I'll know whats wrong if I get an engine light. Thanks Roadtrain.
