After just looking at the pictures Risky has posted of his new 883 I have to ask all you other Sportster riders: Standards or forwards?? (not innies or outties)

If standard how do you find the riding position over distances??

    If forwards.........same question.

I choose to have forward controls as a personal preference as I find the original riding position too uncomfortable (I'm no giant either, roughly 5'11";). I rode my mates sporty (an 883) on his request one day and I felt like my knees were under my chin Having said that though I do find my arse can fall asleep on day rides but this may also be due to the seat and lack of padding (in the seat, not my fat ass).

Curious to see where you all stand on this................I guess it could also expand to "is it cooler to have forward controls or standards regardless of comfort??"

For me forwards are better I had mids when I first got the bike I ripped them straight off and put the forwards on.  I found it too squashed with the mids.  I also didn't like the fact that they hit your shins when pushing the bike around.  I've been on a couple of day trips witht he forwards and I've found them fine.  Only drawback with forwards is that it puts you in a bit of a hunched forward position to reach the bars so I've been thinking of getting some 2" pullback risters for the handlebars that would create a more comfortable riding position.  Either the pullback risers or mini-apes.

I much prefer standard location controls and actually did not buy a Sportster Custom because they have forwards.

I suppose i like the old school look and feel like the Nightster.

My last Harley was a XL1200 Sporty with standard controls with up front highway pegs like Roadtrains ride.

I think i will do the same on my  new Sporty for highway cruising just for a change of leg angle and that stretched out Harley look.

My back is a bit stuffed also so i like to sit upright.

Thats only my opinion and most Harleys have forward controls anyway.

FOR ME I PREFER THE FORWARD CONTROLS NOW WHEN I GOT THE BIKE IT HAD STANDARD PEGS ON IT BUT I FOUND IT TO BE A BIT SQUASHY  SO I MADE UP THE FORWARD CONTROLS BUT SEEMINGS THIS WAS THE FIRST BIKE I,D HAD WITH FORWARD CONTROLS EVERYTIME I WENT TO TAKE OF I,D PUT MY FEET IN THE WRONG POS AND IT TOOK A WHILE TO GET USED TO BUT NOW THAT I AM  I THINK THE FORWARDS ARE MORE COMFY

I prefer the mids... and like Risky didn't buy the Custom for that reason (and I prefer black stuff to shiny stuff). Initially I had wanted the EFI 1200R but HD in their wisdom isn't bringing it to Oz. Very happy with what I've got. May put a set of hwy pegs on at some point, but at 5'3" (with my boots on) I'm certainly not cramped on the mids. Most distance done so far has been 600kms in a day... was happy to get off at the end, though that had more to do with the shocks than the mids.

I guess i must be old school to as i prefer the mid mounts over forwards hence the 883 std, love the black by way too! One thing though i have been thinking of putting a set of pillion pegs on for longer rides so i can rest me knees, too many crashes when i was younger and just a little wilder haha. I,m more used to the road racer crouch than the harley laid back style so i think they would suit me better. As to riding the bike further i reckon i would go around oz on my no probs, had it about 6 weeks and have 2,800 ks now and i have had a sore arse a bit but just need to harden the f up lol. The bike is running so sweet now ever since it passed 2000ks it just purrs along smooth as you can get. Stay safe boys and girls i luv you all. ps do you all nod or otherwise acknowledge other riders, i do to everyone but dont get the same back, maybe their just busy i guess.
