It's a common problem, I'm not that mechanicaly minded but it's something to do with crankcase pressure and/or over filling the oil tank.  Help me out here someone, I'm struggling.

Just a thought but when changing air filters you should oil them up to help prevent dust etc...may be the last one to do this with the oil filter didn't let it dry out first and just whacked it in still dripping with oil.....just a thought!

Having said that it does not look like air filter oil!

Taxi....you can usually clean the air filters and re use if it is the foam type. Just use kero or similar. let it dry out then oil it up a BIT. should be good to go. You can buy proper air filter cleaners but kero is as good and cheaper. If you are planning on doing this get yourself some foam air filter oil....you can also get spray on shit...pretty takky.

Thank's guys for your input much appriciated  , have'nt looked at oil level since last service and it was a little over the half way mark , and im told on a cold oil check it should only go half way up the markers .

    that's what the book say's anyway , thats right in'it  ?

so im gess'in it's just an overfill problem ( by the dealer )  so i took some out n see how that go's

    thanks again guys

You are probably better off checking when hot.

Not sure on the BT's but on the Sporty's it's a breather problem. They umbrella valves in the heads that allow the compression that gets past the piston rings to escape through the carby. So you will get oil that gets forced through and will help scale up the valves and plugs. I have tapped some 1/8 bsp hose fittings in my a/c and have joined the two breaters together so it vents to the air. Have run the hose around the back of the motor and out behind the kick stand stop. Have to put a tray under the bike now so it catches the oil that is in the line that drips on the floor of the garage. I also put a vent with valve off a telstar on the cam cover side of the bike to help get rid of the pressure. These have both seem to be doing the job well. Plugs are alot cleaner so can only assume that the valves will be the same.

This is a good article about this problem

My sportster has also had the problem.

But the fix is quite easy.

its just oil from the breather system the oil vaporizes n is directed to the air filter to stop it dripping on the ground u will get more the harder u ride just wash the filter n re fit it, the older dry primaries had that oil directed down onto the primary chain.

there is 96ci of displacement under the pistons so no matter what you do it will still happen just the amount that varies
