How much can I expect to pay for my first service on my 08 FXD ?

By the way, are only Harley Stealerships authorised to service Harleys under warranty ?

Can anyone recommend Johnny's Hog Shop in the west of Melbourne ?

First service on my Heritage was $355.35 at Harley City. They still recomend a service every 4K, not 8K

So they want us to put diesel engine oil in our Harleys but they expect us to change the oil every 4K.

Bet you farmer George doesn't change his oil that often !

    Should be around $80/90.
Just an oil change & a check over.
I'd go to the dealer to keep the warranty in check. After that i'd go to the smaller Hog shops, there in it because they love it generally.ly

My 1st service was free. Dec 07.

4,500k service before I went on a real ride was about $250

11,000k (I missed 8,000k while on real ride) was $720 including new back tyre and a set of sunnies

Aiming at 15,500 for the next service and a front trye.

some dealers don't charge for first service, other charge parts only and then there are the stealers who charge over the top.

I would tend to get dealer to do the first service.

If you get the bike serviced by a Harley trained mechanic then this should not void warranty. That means we have a few options in Perth through the public outlets like Super Cycles as well as some of the mobile mechanics. HD and therefore the stealer must honour warranty... something about trade practices act

Frasers in Perth charged me $320 for the first one, most of this was labour charges, oil and oil filter cost stuff all.
    Now I'm doing my own.
    Because that's outright robbery!!

Years ago, 1989, I bought an FXR from Freedom Wheels,
Smithy always did the first service free, and the second one was the cost of oil, etc and a minimum labour fee.

    What a difference!!

Just had my 16.000 service done by Frasers.

Syn3 in all 3 holes, synthetic fork oil, and a new Dunlop touring (supposed to be a bit harder therefore longer lasting) tyre - $968 bucks.

Am I happy with the service? Yes, the bike runs shmicko, was done on time, cleaned and polished, clutch adjusted, can't wrong em.

For those of you that claimed free first service or service around the $85 mark, there has to be more to it.

    Please explain ?

Was it a part of the purchase deal ?

Harley Heaven's best deal, after mentioning the claims above,  (and only because I bought it there) is $290.

Harley City's indicative price is $389 but they want to see the bike first before they confirm it (can't imagine why).

Johnny's Hog Shop surprised me at $365

Sheez, didn't realise I'd be up for $300 for my 1st service... Surely there's not too much work that requires to be done with only 1,500 on the clock...

I think that the $85 people are quoting here is just for parts.

Labour may be free but I can't imagine any dealer giving you oils, filters etc for free.

$280.00 for my first service on the Fat Bob from Frasers, $480.00 for my 8000km sevice from American Cycles in Vic Park but in that price i had it swapped to Ams synthetic and a new derby cover supplied and fitted.

My first service was about $90 which was just for parts, not labour.
