well i have had enough of ridin this bike with a tranny that is sounding like a mixmaster [and a crook one at that]
the glide has just clicked over 14000 clicks . had service manager take a ride of it today and he agrees it aint right, too noisy in fifth gear
also has to fix oil seep around clutch cable area and rear bumper brackets both broken
not here to start "harley bashing" i really love the bike, but a little disappointed in havin these problems
will be hanging out to hear what the mechanics find

So Rooshooter, what's the go with your noisy trannie ? Will they fix it under warranty ? Do they know what it is ? I complained on my first service (07 RK custom) but they just said that they do that and that was it. But mine makes noise in the top three gears, fourth isn't too bad, fifth is terrible between 70 and 80 odd ks, sixth isn't too bad either but I figure wind noise drowns most of it out. I will complain again on my next service, and the next, and the next etc etc
Does anyone know what models are affected ?
My mate has an 07 street bob and hasn't complained, but I thought the motor and trannie would be the same as mine.
My Roadking whines like a banshee in 5th but is ok in other gears,not going anywhere near a dealer to get services done so won't be complaining to anyone.

picking my bike up at the end of the week so will know a bit more then
not really happy with the srev. managers reply today but at least the shop pulled it apart to have alook
they reckon nothins wrong but are waitin for a couple of bearings to come .......... fom what i can gather they have had a good look at all the gears + bearings
wonder why they are replacing two bearings if they aint broke ?

Yeah I saw your reply after I posted above.
They tell me it does no harm to the box but how can something that sounds so bad be okay ? Imagine what happens when I go to sell it and the guy test rides it and and says "geez the gearbox is noisy" and I say "oh they all do that" I wonder if he'll believe me. Don't get me wrong, i love the bike. But my old softail never made a peep from the gearbox, newer is supposed to be better....apparently.
Hey rooshooter if you go to the US HD forums site there is a thread in the bagger section that has hundreds of stories about the 5th gear noise problem. There seems to be a fix that a lot are happy with, relates to the replacement of the final drive pulley with a rubber damped one (IDS) anyway might be worth a look.

HD does sell the kit for the rear called a isolater, that will reduce the noise you are hearing. It bolts into the rear pulley and reduces the noise
The isolator only removes the rattling type noise not the Whine from 5th.
