checking oil level on an 08 RK

Had my bike serviced the other day and when I got home I checked the oil, hot level check. The oil level was half way down the marker, which is okay but I was surprised that it wasn't at the full mark.

Should I be checking the oil before I leave the Service Department, one does hope they get it right.?????

    Yeah I know,.........do it myself.

At a previous service I have seen them check and top up the oil after the test run. Also I haven't had to add oil before due to use as it's always full when I check it hot.

So I added some oil and brought it up to the full level. This morning when I checked it cold it was still showing full, when it should be reading half way down the marker. (the cold check level) - I proceded to draw out some oil to get it back to the correct cold level .  Tonight I went for a spin to warm it up, and did the hot level check and bugga me it was reading half way down the mark again.

Yes I was letting the bike idle for 1 to 2 minutes before turning off and then checking the oil. Also it was on the jiffy stand as stated in the book for 08 models (that is a good move by HD at long last)

In short, does anyone else have any clues on checking the oil on baggers? What experience have you had with this?

It does warn in the manual not to overfill as it can  spew oil out the filter breather or do other major damage..

No comments yet......Actually I just found the same subject on the American version of HD Forum. Seems that there is just as much confusion about how much oil etc. Some say they have wacked in 4 quarts after draining and changing the filter. Some say they put in 3.5 quarts.
Thing that is annoying me is that the cold and hot level checks seem to be around the same on the dipstick. Weird....

Just looked at my service records, they charged me for 3.2 litres of engine oil for the first service, and 2.8 litres for the next 2 services, and I had the filter changed at each service.
