Harley Security System

    yesterday
Yes it is me again and hopefully this post interest many others.  With my 2009 Street Glide and even my 2025 Road Glide, it is super easy to access the battery SO, wouldn't disconnecting the battery render the security system useless? Sure, a crook may not be able to start it but could push it onto a trailer and the rest is history. To be honest, I am surprised that in 2025, you can not set up your bike to notify you on your phone if your bike is being tampered with.  It would be far from rocket science to do this and how many of us leave our bikes way beyond hearing range of the alarm.  Yes, this post may present as a lack of understanding on my part but the quality of info I get here is bullshit awesome so ya gunna have to put up with this old fart. Cheers and Beers. Darren

The alarm system usually has its own internal battery.

As speedzter says, I dunno about the M8 's but the twin cams have a 9volt rechargeable battery so the alarm will go off until it runs flat, I was going to change mine out awhile back as I thought the battery was buggered but next time I ran the bike it charged back up and was just as annoying when I set it off.

Yes the M8 Softails have a 9v rechargeable batt (prick of a place & but not sure about the Baggers tho) same as my later twin cams (that's how my 2015 WG was) For the M8's both my LRS were the same, they never came with an alarm siren, i had HD fit one to the 1st bike for around $300nz from memory, I swapped the 2020 bikes siren onto the 2022 bike when i traded along with a few other parts as part of the deal

Cheers.  Actually I will call the dealership and ask.  That would have been the smart idea from the start!!!

All sold new in Australia Harley models since 2007 came with standard factory security systems, with 2 proximity fobs.

Some ADR or import passing necessity at the time.

Most used US imports since did not have factory security as it was extra cost there, and very few buyers took the option.
Factory security was only on the USA domestic market CVO models as original factory fit.
Other than CVO's all the grey imports I have worked on (many many dozens) none had the factory fob type security.

My own 2008 CVO (used from Texas in 2011) had the security fobs, but no siren, maybe a Texas thing, states do vary.

A good mate of mine loved my CVO Springer and bought one himself from an HD dealer in North Carolina from photos.
Not quite as nice cosmetically at the time as mine, with higher mileage, and from a "damper" state with summer humidity.
Still a nice bike, as mine came from a carpeted multi car home garage and had only 6,300 miles ( 10,000 K's)

Of late the factory alarm on that has been giving him (and us FFsake) the shits, going off constantly.
I serviced it 2 weeks ago (overdue!) and had to wear shooting ear defenders, kunntuuva thing.
Off on the internet trawl (remembering few Yank home market bikes have this chit) and it is looking like the 9V rechargeable battery, which is only supposed to have a lifespan of 6 years, and I have NEVER replaced one ?
Probably corroded junctions somewhere at or around it.
That's my next job faaark...$100+ to buy the wee jigger, better be that !

Pissing off the factory security is not that straightforward sadly, you have to replace the security system equipped TSSM with a TSM  (turn signal security module / turn signal module) which is Rex Hunty, and I believe requires the dealer digitech.

I was building up to posting this as a request for info in it's own thread, I may just do that now.

Thanks Cobber.  I am well into my 60's and that's a lot of info for old fart who drinks too much but really appreciate your post. I purchased the bike in Melbourne but now live in Hervey Bay and have arranged transport. Will need to get my first service with Bundaberg HD which has a great reputation.  Bike is leaving here (Geelong) on Wednesday morning then hook up caravan and piss off up to the Sunshine state.  I will check it all with the dealer. Ride safe. Cheers and Beers. Darren
