Motorcycle lift nightmare

    Hey Legends,

I just had a nightmare of a night with the new bike hoist I picked up today.

I wont name what brand it is yet ive emailed to get a refund.

2200 long 450kg lift so should be sweet for my road glide.

Was about $1390 delivered to a depot around the corner from mine, hired an 8 foot trailer and a mate and I picked it up got it into the garage.

Set it up pretty flimsy grabbed my roadglide to pop on there to give it a go and as soon as thefront wheel hit the ramp it went sliding across the garage.

I had to chock it with weights and rubber and give it another go.

Got it on and the missus did the clamp up, bent the handle on the vise. All 55kgs of her. She balance the bike and I did the straps up and the whole deck started warping and it was rocking before we even lifted it.

    What a waste.

Anyone got any recommendations for lifts delivered upto $2,500?

Google up Warana Imports, I assume they’re still in business.  I use their air lifter which is much like the American Handy lift. I had the same sliding issue with my old foot pump lift but this one doesn’t budge, it weighs 200kg.
Looks like this (not my bike, just a pic off the net, I can’t be bothered getting up to photograph mine)

I just bought one off Marketplace.
There's a bloke in Maitland NSW selling them brand new for $800. You can screw the legs down before you ride up the ramp and it doesn't move.
The table flexes a bit when the Harley is on it but nothing to worry about.
I made up the timber platforms so I can ride the bike up and put it on the side stand,  get off and clamp the front wheel on my own.
    Pretty good for the money.

Mine was a cheap generic one as well, I modded it to suit my needs, I extended the deck a few inches either end so my old wideglide was fully on the deck and not with the back wheel sitting on the ramp.
I ditched the wheel clamp and used my floor steady, set it up to be quick removal so only 2 3/8 bolts have to be undone to slide it off when you want to take the front wheel off.
Had it a long time now, had one oil leak that fixed, got it 2013, had all sorts of Harley's on it since. It does move a bit but it's solid enough for the job.

I have one from Happ, had it for a 5 years or so now, it's not to bad, but I have few mates with ones from Warana Imports, like Rat Bob mentioned, thats the way I would go when I need a new one.

My road glide is about 400kg in 100kg it shouldn't be flexing this much on the ground

Ive got a video of me standing on the ramp and the whole thing twists, can't upload it though.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

Just went to put the bike on the hoist today and forgot to screw the legs down.
It shot out from underneath the front wheel and landed in the garden.

Ian still has a few left last time we spoke but hes happily winding things down these days.He does good gear but certainly not the cheapest.

Yeah I did speak to him and he guaranteed that I wouldn't have any dramas with his and my roadglide as he has supplied multiple units to dealerships.

I want to buy one but I don't have space in the garage at the moment.

My wife bought me a 72 inch stainless rolling tool trolley from bunnings so ive run out of room for the ramp bikes and tool chest.

    Can't fit 2 ramps
