Dunlop AE2 tyres for 23 Ultra in Australia

    G’day all,

I need Tyres for a 2023 Ultra, and have settled on Dunlop AE2 for both front and rear, after heaps of research on the available options. It seems there’s no stock in Australia, and I’m not sure there ever will be, after an email I got from Dunlop corporate, who told me they will not be making the AE2 in sizes to fit the FLHTK. But…. I see in the states they can get them! (Whhich means they are certainly producing them) So… does anyone have the scoop on what’s happening with Dunlop AE2 Tyre stocks here in Australia?
I’m not looking for other Tyre recommendations, as if I cannot get AE2s, I’ll just go for the stock Dunlops, but I’d really like to try the improved model!
    Thanks for any knowledge.

I tried to get US made Dunlop American Elite for my 200 rear CVO Springer coupla months back.

To replace the same US made Dunlop American Elite I had mounted 8 years ago. They replaced the original OEM tyres back then.

I could find reference to them online and in various HD forums, but NLA in Australia I found.

Dunlop American Elite long recommended in Springer forums as the best to avoid the dreaded front tyre "cupping".

Further digging revealed the Dunlop factory in the US who made the Elites had apparently been shuttered by the international owner.

Could that be your problem now I wonder ?

local Indy tyre shop had Metzeler Cruisetec in stock, and they seemed to get good reviews on the same various forums.

$870 pair fitted. As good as any I could find in Perth at the time. 200/55-17 rear, 130/70-18 front.

In and out same morning when I had a dry day off work.
Perth had just had the wettest winter for 30+ years FFsake !

They have been on now 1,500 K's, and the jury is still out I must say, they seem to "wander" or "squiggle" on bad surfaces.
May be my overly critical vivid imagination, BUT you get to know your own bike !
At 160 Km/H on our local raceway on privateers day they seem to track true.

    Hi408,
Thanks for that, but they are in the States and want around $450, just for delivery! Unfortunately, I aint made of money! I understand there's front AE2 tires in the Dunlop warehouse at QLD. Perhaps I should get an AE2 front, and the standard Dunlop rear.

    Thanks

For anyone interested, I got Metzeller Cruisetec Tyres fitted. Man they are so much better than the original dunlops! They are sticky and I assume they won’t last as long but who cares. I want sticky Tyres that will protect me (us) in marginal situations (eg emergency stopping in the wet when some zeroid pulls in front of me unexpectedly), rather than saving a few dollars on slippery Tyres. FYI, I got 19,000 ks out of the original Tyres, and they still had a lot left. I never got more that 10,000 ks out of a back tyre in the last 20 years of Softails, so I was surprised. I was also surprised at how terrible they were in the wet. I haven’t yet tried the cruisetecs in the wet, but I can feel they are way stickier, in all other aspects so I’m hoping for good things.

    Thanks

ME880's were a sticky tyre, about 6k from a rear though, I'm digging the Bridgestones on the slim, no nasty surprises, k's are right wrist dependent. Stay upright Pauly.
