Tank Lifts

G’day all, been a while but good to be back - anyone done a tank lift on a FXDF? Wondering if there’s a need to lift the handlebar height, and if so by how much - just looking at doing a 2” lift? I actually like the standard drag bars so would prefer not to change them but I’m all ears for advice, thanks.

from what I can tell a 2” tank lift on an FXDF is pretty tame and you generally don’t need to touch the bars at all. The stock drag bars usually clear the tank fine at full lock, so no need to swap them out unless you’re chasing a different look.

Most of the time the throttle and clutch cables are sweet, the brake line is usually fine too, but it’s worth turning the bars full lock both ways after the lift just to make sure nothing’s getting pulled. The only area that can get a bit tight is the wiring under the tank, but that depends on how tidy things are under there already.

I’m planning to just mock it up first — loosen the tank, prop it up roughly 2”, and check bar clearance, cable slack and wiring before committing. Seems like the safest bet.

Good idea to do the mockup, might try that before I order the kit, thanks mate.

I had a 2" lift on my 2007 FXDB and the only issue I had was with fuel crossover, had to very mildly bend the tubes from the tank so that the hose didn't rub on the frame.

What bars & risers did you have on the '07 mate? The drag bars on my '13 FXDF look like they will hit the tank with a 2" lift, I haven't tried the mockup yet but will as soon as I'm fit again - just had my left rotorcuff recon job.
