If you need a plate anyway then now's the time for sure, sorry was a bit of a hijack as I was sort of giving Beages a hint with the pic, his tensioners haven't failed but they are close to it.
I hope this sorts it for you, I've read through it all again and I'm still at a loss to understand what the root cause is here.

sprocket shaft seal is what im saying is starting point a nick on the outer edge of the casing not picked up on last install is what i suspect, scavenge side of oil pump maybe not working as good as it should, new auto primary tensioner had moved and front corner dropped raising rear up tightening chain putting more stress on system, hence new manual adjuster going in with new chain , so my take a bit of everything, last time i thought that's still serviceable ill use it this time if in dought through it out ,it doesnt really explain the first time primary oil disappeared just replacing everything that could remotely contribute and triple check everything going in

i have a oil migration problem om my 2005 fxdx dyna .the oil is migrating from primary to gearbox all seals replaced  inner and outer primary and problem still exists. All info i have says the other way around gearbox to primary. Has anyone had or herd of this problem i think I'm going mad as i cannot find anyone else with same issue

i changed the oils in my bike about two months ago.  I caught the oil from the engine in a pan and inspected it. it was what i expected.
I pulled the primary drain plug out and got a dribble of oil so I took off the derby cover off for a look and there was fuck all oil in there so I topped it up with the same oil I use in the engine.
I have been running the red stuff in the gearbox for at least the last 5 years and that is going good.
so the question is  where did the oil from the primary go ?

similar problem to me, the only thing i can suggest is do as i did on line buy a fluesent dye kit less than 30.00 it doesn't take Mutch, put some in engine and run it,check  after x amount of km the stuff shows up easily,if no migration flush  engine do again with dye in primary it doesnt take mutch to show i wasnt loosing anymore engine oil than usual but showed up everywhere in gearbox showed up on dipstick,i would like to know what you find if you try it,im thinking Mabe ending up in trans and red stuff getting diluted

I haven't looked at the primary oil level since.
When I said there was fuck all oil in there I should have been more specific. There was about 300 or 400 ml in there when I drained it, from memory there should be nearly 800 ml. It had been almost 18 months since I last changed the oils but I can't explain why the oil was low in the primary.
I put the bike on the hoist yesterday cos I am ready to do the cam chain tensioners so I will have another look but I don't expect it to be low cos I've done less than 1000k since the last service.
