at this stage as advised ill call it  .003 runout at pinion shaft ill dismantle primary and look for what i can find recheck runout and if feels good then  otherwise i might rip off heads and barrels see how it feels it should spin freely then, then if main bearings feel ok and no obvious marks in cases  or anything sinister new seals all round set of rings hone  ,ill replace oil pump and a few things hopefully good to go . just a question back in the day when falcons first come out with alloy heads they used to crack easily when over heated we had a paste we used to use to show up cracks, has anyone used anything like this checking cases for cracks just thinking out aloud wondering if anything even exists

You can't measure the Crank end play without the primary drive side being torqued to correct spec' .
End play max is around 14 thou from memory  for the later style roller bearing.

no up and down movement  clunks side to side with everything dismantled, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thinking it might be ok pinion runnot .003 with primary together with everything disconnected pinion runnout .002

There is nothing to lock the crankshaft in the case without compensator bolted up.
The end play when torqued( side to side as you say), should be less than 14 thou .

i have been told but i am skeptical and having trouble believing,i was told that if transmition cover gasket has failed internally engine oil can migrate int transition on a dyna has something to do with dipstick passage, thats why my dye trial ended up in trans i dont believe this as it doesnt explain primary oil disapearing,im sticking with current plan unless someone pops up and says yes thats possible,i do not want to unnesesarily replace a gasket that externally looks fine, any thoughts out there on this

In theory I guess the oil could defy gravity but in practice I can't see it happening, red arrow is the bit for reference.

I can't say if it would allow oil migration or not but that gasket failed on my bike and created a fairly major oil leak. It must have let go when I was on the highway and by the time I noticed it and nursed the bike home there was fuck all oil left in the gearbox. I would imagine that at highway speeds there would be a lot of oil getting thrown around inside the gearbox.

thats what i think its a splash system external leak, not internal engine to gearbox, I would like to know if anyone has experienced any kind of internal leak there from that gasket or was that mechanic pissing in my mates pocket.
anyway what im doing so far is new main sprocket shaft seal new sprocket shaft spacer and new thrust washer new primary chain (had tight spot) new seals in primary, ditching auto primary chain tensioner and puting new stk manual tensioner i wasn't going to pull main drive belt pully not sure what they call it as all seals behind there are dry, other side new fuelingfe7090 oe+ hydraulic cam tensioner upgrade kit with new chains and sprockets im keeping my stk cams as they look pretty good if anyone think of anything i missed let me know

I am in the process of ordering the parts to replace the cam chain tensioners.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the hydraulic tensioner upgrade end up costing you?

Wow, that is a large chunk of money .
There are other options to convert to Hydraulic tensioners that don't use the nasty original "silent chain", and
    roller/ball bearings .
But it does require the use of "conversion"  Cams.
What Cams are you using now ( didn't see it mentioned ) ?

thats primary side as well chain adjuster seal etc, I'm using my stk cams they are in good condition,my bike is fast enough for me,s&s was a bit cheaper  but only came with 1 chain this kit has bothe chains and sprokets for cams etc,all gaskets to do the job useing my pushrods also inclueds lifters i can find cheaper lifters worked out these were best fit for job, bikes done 85000 km at 69 years old hopefully never to open cam chest again

i did that 3000 km ago and hear i am with scored oil pump scored where  oil pump sits on cam plate i tried to make do last time my spring tensioners i bought still looks new if you want them i am leaving nothing to chance given my oil migration problem i think a multitude on factors from sprocket shaft seal to everything else, I believe when tensioners failed i dodged a bullet cam plate pressure falve seized shut not allowing oil to recirculate and sending oil through filter,so not doing again replaceing almost the lot, funy thing i do most of my servicing myself but tentioners not in service scedual in my manual after accident a particular harley shop in adelaid repaired it i said give it a major servise while its in there most shops i would think would say have you ever done the tentioners on thi bike7500 km later very little oil in primary compensator stuffed and cam tensioners failed tried to repair myself on a budget and hear i am 3000 km later leaving nothing to chance not that much more to upgrade unless i bought second hand plat oil pump no not this time if in smallest dought out she goes, question any other ideas im open to as im about to pucase that stuff tonight i just gotta work out how to install that sprocket shaft seal properly and buy a couple tention wrenches i cant borrow the ones i used last time
